They aren’t mutually exclusive. I’m addressing the impact that race has on a black man’s gender. That impact goes largely unnoticed, especially when white feminists get involved in these conversations. It’s not my problem if you can’t see the nuance of intersectionality.

In some ways yes. I’m not disputing that. But the goal of my comment was to check the white feminists at the door, because the coexistence of race and gender within the scope of intersectional privilege is often thrown to the wayside during these discussions.

Agreed. People also forget that gender and race are so tied to class itself, and vice versa. I think that’s why sociological issues are so hard to talk about, because it’s hard to pin down the starting point in a vicious cycle. Ya know, the chicken and the egg and all that.

I call it “Taylor Swift-ing”.

I think that’s a valid interpretation, and I think the “privilege olympics” line of thinking can also be attributed to fragility. I was peak “white feminist” in high school and I would get so put out by being confronted with my privilege. And that ignorance and entitlement can be just as insidious, if not more

“Simone Biles-worthy round of mental gymnastics” oh my god that’s excellent

You and I have twin souls. I just thought you should know. I like you a lot.

I agree. I try to stay out of the “Who Has It Worse” game, but I’ve been seeing this conversation between white women and black men a lot lately.

Well, yes and no. Having access to information through the internet when you’re a teen is heavily contingent upon how strict your parents are. And even if there are informed high school peers who have open discussions with their less-informed friends, they can get into pretty big trouble for it. I was suspended for

Raised Southern Baptist. I hear ya, fam.

That doesn’t surprise me in the slightest. Not just for pain meds, but for stimulants, too. I was prescribed Vyvanse for ADHD and depression right off the bat. No testing for heart problems, no questions about addiction running in my family. They say it’s safer- which I believe- but the whole “less chance for abuse

The Hound of the Beyskervilles?

You have a very cute pupper.

I think this is a good time to insert Sexplanations, because some Americans need help.

Thank you for this. I hope so, too. I hope you’re well. <3

I’m the same way! If I don’t have everything under control and in order, I get really hella stressed. Thank you for your thoughts! <3

I hope you’re doing okay now. Thank you for sharing your story. <3
