I can imagine that cruise ships also figure pretty large in Trump supporters’ travel plans. Three of them regurgitate their people contents into our downtown core to meander around and get in the way on a daily basis before they all head off to Alaska to look at the results of global warming/iceberg calving.

This has been a real eye opener about how fragile democracy is. It requires everyone buy into the concept and follow the “rules”. Trump is the Republican’s shot across the bow that they don’t support democracy or equal rights.

Don’t miss a wonderful opportunity because of Trump! You have a wonderful opportunity to escape for a little while. I am sure Europeans are aware of the type of support Trump gets, and from whom. You will be more likely to receive sympathy and commiseration than hostility or a demand you explain why Americans voted a

Don’t dread it. Enjoy it. Show Italy that Americans are great by being yourself! The fact that you are travelling internationally at all and show an interest in another nation/ culture shows that you are interested in the world.

Or if you grew up having classmates whose farming parents lost damn near everything during the Reagan years!

Giving respect without asking people to earn it is the easiest way to become a human floor mat.

1: Paul Ryan is not the representative of any kids in New Jersey.

And all the crap they said about Obama (that wasn’t true) and about Hillary Clinton turned out to be true about Trump. He’s the fascist foreign agent with no qualifications who is busy destroying the U.S.

I think he is spineless because he refuses to take any kind of stand at all. He would sell his soul at the crossroads if the Devil told him he could push through tax cuts for millionaires.

To those that fairly call it a false or misleading comparison, I am one of the 23 million who will be kicked off medical insurance because of that fuckshit. My reaction may be over the top, and I don’t care. I cannot respect Ryan. Dolt45 wants people to take loyalty oaths to him, calls for limiting the free press, and

Have you seen this ? THE BEST. She’s FIVE!

I agree with all this, but would add that I think politely declining a photo op is respectful even in more normal times. This is the kind of thing politicians use in their advertising, and I don’t think respect requires participation in that. We wouldn’t ask that of adults.

It just depends on the kid. This absolutely seems like something I would have done. When I was their age, it was right smack in the middle of the Reagan era, so I was reading 1984 and going off on anti-Reagan rants, so their responses seem completely age-appropriate to me.

I think respectfully disagree hits the nail on the head. I don’t necessarily think quietly refusing to pose or walking out of a speech is disrespectful.

Shiiiiiit, when I was in middle school I hated Tipper Gore before anyone knew that was a thing. You can easily have well developed political opinions by that age if you listened to the Dead Kennedys.

Let’s hope that when they’re of a age to vote there will still be elections, and that they won’t be gerrymandered out.

Students told ABC that Ryan did not seem to notice the dissident middle schoolers standing in solidarity against him and all the parents of this country who just don’t get it.
