Or....it is because women can play in it. There are no rules excluding women from most sports leagues. Women can play in the World Cup, the NFL, MLB, NHL, etc. However, men are excluded from the Women’s World Cup, hence the name distinction.

The point is not about running up the score.  It is the goal celebrations as the score is getting way out of hand.  ie. Celebrating the 12th goal like you just put the team up 1-0 in the WC finals.  The argument is to score the goal, give a couple high fives and play on.
