I once unintentionally ventured onto an HD forum and immediately discovered exactly why I hate HD so much. The post was a question asking if there were any benefits to the unbalanced engines that they offer. First response essentially says no because the power drop from the balance shaft is negligible and fuel economy

My totaled DSM convertible. The junkyard bought it for $50, which leaves plenty of money leftover to replace the radiator and driver side headlight. Still ran and made 300HP at that. Although that wouldn’t be punishment. That would just be because I always wanted to take it out on the track. It was already stripped

At least I admit that this is my logic...

In your defense, it often seems that hipsters are the face of the Millennial generation. There have been previous (non-Jalopnik) articles that use the two interchangeably and at least one that I have seen that seriously used the beard-and-bicycle-wielding trope to describe Millennials’ lack of interest in auto

I feel like I should be involved in this conversation, but I refuse to acknowledge that the Eclipse continued on after 1999.

Shit! I am not alone!

The 300ZX also uses a wooden panel to cover the ECU which they ignorantly placed in the passenger side foot well, right under some rain and A/C drainage tubes.

The motorsports club at my college was dead set on building a turbo Type IV for our 914. We bought the professionally rebuilt engine and started assembling some parts. We talked to an air cooled VW engine builder from California for engine internals advice and he talked us out of a VW engine altogether. It would have

Have you looked at Toledo? It’s a city built up around suppliers for the Jeep plant. Yes, they have other industry but it’s not doing terribly well even with the Wrangler plant there. Moving away would make the city even worse and even possibly bankrupt the government which no longer benefits from industrial taxes.

The one time Dayton gets to say that... :P

10 Car Things You Can’t Live Without. Number 4 Will Astound You!

I have removed power seats from every car that I have owned and swapped for the manual racks. Heavy, slow, something to break. Not something that I want in my car.

Yup. I have a fuel gauge and it technically functions, but it goes to empty and turns on the warning light when I have about five gallons left in the tank. Trip odometer works just fine.

Um, FI is proactive. Period. You push the throttle. The ECU richens the mixture. In open loop, it’s not even slightly reactive. This argument is just completely wrong. Also you already pointed out that your FI car is less responsive because it is drive by wire.

Shelby: "I swear we know what we're doing!"

If you want a 911 engine in a Beetle, just buy a 911.

My thoughts exactly. Ew.

There's a professor at my college that his this exact car (even same color) and it is without a doubt a beater. Pretty poor shape with rust throughout, quite smoky and about as fast as a Miata towing an RV. I still think it's super cool. Or were you meaning that specific example? Because I get that clean and beater

That time my dumbass self mechanic was being a nice guy and topped off all of my fluids before a road trip but forgot to put the oil cap back on. I drove a long time unaware that all of my oil had sprayed all over my engine bay. Refilled it and all seemed well until it spun a bearing and took the whole engine block

So much blood! It’s everywhere!
