I loved that Chewie was snarky right back to him (even if we can’t understand Wookiee). They really were two old friends who’d been through a lot together and, even though the fact is most of it happened off-screen, we still get a sense of their history.

FTR: Kasdan wasn’t merely a co-writer. He and Abrams were the main writers. And I imagine Kasdan got the final (shooting script) polish.

Honestly, the movie is kinda meh. Read the Cliff’s Notes on it and dive into season 1. Around the end of season 2, it really finds its legs and just gets better from there.
