One thing that has been bugging me about this whole thing is this: the DR receives an even larger amount of tourists from European countries as well...why there hasn’t been any reports on deaths of visitors from those? It just seems weird.

I love that comparison. I think that everyone is underestimating the influence of the people around him. The immediacy of the people around him, battling for his ear and scheming to influence him are as dangerous as the foreign ones.
