People: Consumers: illegally set up private servers to host games. Those servers have could support less than 100 concurrent connections. And let me not even get into the cost on the bandwidth of that alone.

You cannot lease something as specific as a game server for an mmo. This is not vent, this is not team speak. This is not some non-specialized piece of hardware. Once you by a serverblade you are suck with it because you need it configured to exact specifications.

There is no way to tell how much of those users will attempt to connect concurrently for the first time. You mentioned earlier that "It would only cause a couple thousand dollars to set up additional servers"... The server itself is no less than $20k. Then you need to pay someone to install it, that time is factored…

Each server costs ~$20,000.00 to purchase, but the real expense comes from maintenance and instillation. To add an additional 5 servers it can take up to an additional $300,000.00 - $500,000.00 depending on hardware costs, instillation costs, maintenance costs, etc.
