FWIW I drive a Chevy Bolt which has a relatively simple but very unintuitive process for shifting out of Park. When the car was new there was at least one documented case of a carjacker failing to steal one because they could not figure out how to get it to move.

My mom has a somewhat older (2015) Model S.

with the city council likely to cut much-needed government services to balance the budget

True story, just a few weeks after I bought mine I got a ticket for doing 95 in it. I was doing 130 about an hour earlier (cross-country road trip)

Forgot about the ZX2

The Escort in the U.S. was a pretty boring and lackluster car, I owned what was probably the most interesting one produced (a 1990 Escort GT) and even that wasn’t much to write home about.

My wife briefly owned a Mach-E last year (ended up getting bought back by Ford because neither they nor their dealer could fix a simple problem) and my son bought one this year.

My parents had an old cab forward van with the engine between the front seats, my brother or I would sit on top of the engine cover almost every ride.

You really misquoted me in order to come up with your crappy strawman?

Sounds like there is little to no actual evidence that these seats are unsafe, just that the government hasn’t tested them and certified them as safe.

My Mazda3 turned 20 last month, not my daily driver anymore but still runs well and brings a smile to my face when I drive it.

Even if this was the ultra rare GLHS (the S stands for Shelby) this would be a bad deal.

I owned a 2000 Focus Hatchback.  Was a pretty good car all in all, though having to go back to the dealer every few months for a new recall was a pain.

In most circumstances I’d happily bring my Bolt out, Malibu is a short, nice drive from me.

To each their own, I’d disassemble and reassemble an EV battery pack without rubber gloves before I attempted to do an engine swap on any ICEV including an original VW Beetle which is legendary for (among other things) the ease in which it’s engine can be replaced.

I trust a junkyard battery pack the same as I trust a junkyard engine (no farther than I can throw them).

You can buy a used battery for a Chevy Bolt for $2500 on eBay right now.

I drove a Geo Metro convertible with an auto transmission for a few years. It was absolutely terrible.

Los Angeles resident here.

Most of the natural gas pipes in the country were put in as those areas were first developed, much more difficult and expensive to go into established areas to install millions of miles of new pipelines that would be needed.
