I own a Merkur and it works great! Be sure to dry off your blades after every use to keep them sharp.

1. Make your first “camping trip” an overnighter in your back yard.

You should put your house wrap on the inside of the tent because if water gets between the wrap and the tent floor, it will push through (hydraulics). Make sure it goes up the walls a little. Most of the tent floor wear will be on the inside.

The two biggest energy hogs for me are the refrigerator and the air-conditioner. Those compressors really are a drain. I have a thermometer in the ice box to keep it at a good temperature and I try to fill up the empty spaces. The energy star appliances are a good buy as well.

Exposure, works for me...

The September 2014 issue of Popular Mechanics had instructions for a backyard chair built out of two 1 x 10s.

Throw stone, run like friggin’ hell...

I guess I have a lot more to learn about HTTPS. I just thought of it as a more secure way of transferring web site data. Maybe there will be a better way to transfer files and text among Lifehacker users than simply signing in. The way that web security is going, well, I just would feel better knowing that we were a

I have been using this extension for a long time now and it has worked great. Why doesn’t Lifehacker use HTTPS?

Thank you so much for your post! I like that you have a quilt and not a sleeping bag. If you spend a lot of time in the Midwest, you can find tarps with more guy points from Cooke Custom Sewing.

Keep in mind that adults will typically under-report the amount of sleep that they get. The only way to really know for sure is to go in for a sleep study. Maybe there are some affordable devices out there that can measure your sleep time? I guess it all comes down to how well rested you feel.

I love [c]alibre! What a great tool for organizing, converting, and syncing!

Don't forget the free little libraries around your neighborhood (also good for donating books you don't want anymore).

I have tried KeePass 2. It is a nice piece of software but, I had some kind of conflict switching between Linux and Windows. I am sure that I just didn't take the time to learn it. I have a backlog of documentation that I want to read already. Thanks for all the feedback!

I have the 20 ounce Insulated Klean Kanteen. It is great for cold drinks and will keep them cold for a long time, but even though the company states that it will insulate hot beverages up to 6 hours, it will always leak hot coffee.

I have a 20 and a 40 ounce Insulated Klean Kanteens. It is great for cold drinks but even though the company states that it will insulate hot beverages up to 6 hours, it will always leak hot coffee.

This is a good book! I took a class with Cody when I lived in Prescott, AZ (Prescott Valley Wilderness First Responder - Yavapai College). They have a good search and rescue team there.

I would not recommend the Eton weather radios so highly. One: the hand-crank thing (along with the LED & beacon) is more of a novelty than something of any practical use; unless you can get some kids or a group together, you will soon tire of it. Besides, what you are charging is usually the size of half a AA battery.
