Yeah, I would normally do that, but there were only one or two passing zones in that 20-30 miles before I made it to the longer one, and my luck was bad with cars coming the other way.

I could totally be wrong here, but I’m pretty sure that gyroscopic balancing would make it impossible to lean the bike at all. It would stay upright at all times, which would mean it would feel completely different to a normal motorcycle. You would drive it like a car, using the handlebars to turn instead of leaning.…
Or just drive faster cars so they can safely overtake in a smaller window of time ;)
Fair criticism, and all good points. I just don’t have the patience to sit behind slow drivers for more than a few minutes at a time. Especially when they’re literally going half of the speed limit.
Don’t ride my ass expecting me to speed up when we’re on a single lane each way road and there’s a vehicle...or TEN in front of me going slow. There’s nothing I can fucking do about it!
I don’t remember reading that particular comment thread, but I’m inclined to be skeptical of any statements saying that NOx is nothing to worry about and in fact possibly a good thing. Do you mean rates or levels? Because the rate of increase has been dropping since the mid-2000s, but that just means we are producing…
Well, the idea being that you need training for a certification, certified inspectors will have been trained to look for common faults, and will have a greater familiarity. I’m sure they have some kind of documentation detailing their most common issues in manufacturing. There’s no way their process is perfect and…
When you say “no one noticed”, what exactly do you mean by that? It’s not like Nissans are free of problems. It’s just that no one outside the company would have any reason to assume that inspections may have been done improperly. If you had a Nissan and something on it broke, would your first thought be “Oh, I bet…
Bear in mind that by doing this, you increase the reciprocating mass of your engine, placing more load on the pins and rods from both the increase in torque and the additional mass it needs to move. Unless you get some really fancy pistons that are lighter and as strong/stronger. Anyway, assuming same piston material…
Not necessarily true. If you’re getting onto the freeway and have the (somehow uncommon) intelligence to actually get up to freeway speed while on the on-ramp, and assuming that traffic is flowing normally and there is no backup, there is no reason not to jump into a gap prior to the merge point. It will make zero…
It’s an aftermarket ECU that’s apparently pretty easily programmable. Never done it myself, but I had a friend that put an EFI kit in his 70s pickup using a megasquirt, and it ran pretty well after a lot of fiddling.

Good, maybe soon I’ll be able to actually go the speed limit (or even above) on those wonderful little two lane highways on the weekends, and not get death threat glares when I pass a dozen old biker dudes who are going 10 under.
Now we’ve got economy cars going faster than classic sports cars, and getting 40mpg while we do it.
Agreed. Ever since I had to start getting premium, I’ve almost exclusively bought gas from Costco because (around here, at least) they are anywhere from 30-50 cents cheaper than other top tier stations. The line usually isn’t more than a couple minutes, if any. And I’ve also noticed that people seem to avoid the left…
You could say that, and there’s a point to be made, but I feel like most of the safety tech doesn’t really center around phone usage so much as people who just suck at driving and can’t figure out how to modulate their brakes or stay in their own lane. Regardless of how attentive you are, it’s pretty hard to make a…
I see where you’re coming from, and I can appreciate that you live your life that way. It’s certainly not most people’s preference, but if it’s yours, then go for it.
Not only that, but what if you’re already out and about, and you decide to change your plan? Then, if you don’t have a map with you, how do you get where you need to go? What if your map doesn’t have where you’re going listed? What if you don’t even know where to go or whether it’s nearby? Granted, these are all…
But how are you going to do that without making it so that no one in the vehicle can use their phone? There is absolutely reason to use a phone while in a vehicle, especially on a long road trip or if the driver doesn’t know where they’re going and needs a passenger to navigate.
