Good point. Although depending on how clever you get with your packaging, I think it could be done. You could reduce the size of the engine since you can compensate with power from the electric part of the drivetrain. You could even just use a very small turbo engine running purely as a generator so that it could be

There’s been some interesting dev work going on in the trucking industry in the last few years for a hybrid turbine-electric version. I haven’t been involved in the industry since then, so I’m not sure if it’s gone anywhere, but it’s a definite possibility, and it would help get away from the negative stigma

Regardless of how impractical the idea is, I would love to see someone build another turbine-powered car. The idea of driving a jet (okay, not really, but it’s novel) is very appealing!

Tons of city buses out there with turbodiesels and electric motors. Not so sure about car examples, but not reason it couldn’t be done.

Typo. The 3 should be a 2.

That would mean it revs to 15-20k rpm, depending on the torque curve. Soooo doubtful.
(Sorry if you were joking, always hard to tell on here...)

I don’t think it’s really luck. That’s just the insurance classification for that car. Anyone else should be able to insure the same car for only a small ratio more than what they would pay for a Camry. I was not in any special circumstance. Now, if you’re talking about a sports car with a V8/turbos/etc, sure, you can

Ehh, not particularly true in my experience. My first car was a V6 Camaro. Certainly nothing amazing, but enough to have a little fun in, and sportier than most of what you would see on the daily. Insurance considered it a sub-compact car. I paid only slightly more in insurance than it would have cost to drive around

Please tell me you’re joking, and that you don’t actually believe this is a good description of the two.

I agree with most of what you said, but this is a bit ridiculous. You contradicted it with your earlier statement that other companies were able to achieve the required emissions levels just fine. Those companies “got to work and made it happen”. I’m sure that when JFK made his statement, there were plenty of people

So with this whole banning ICE cars thing, do they mean ban them completely (I’m guessing no), or ban their sale, or ban the sale of new vehicles? And if they mean ban the sale of ICE vehicles in general (new or used), does that include private party sales?

Also the Audi 2.7T. I love my B5, but maintenance-free is not something that can be said about it.

I live in Washington, 20 minutes from BC. I’ve seen a few Canadians on the road that are terrible drivers, so obviously everyone in the nearly 4 million square miles of Canada must also be terrible drivers, right? You know, because everyone in America wants to get rid of any and all regulation.

I bet you’re a lot of fun at parties. You may be right, but that doesn’t mean you have to personally attack someone with every comment you make, especially when they are calmly debating with you and have not insulted you in any way.

I guess it depends on what level of engine braking you’re talking about. If you mean trying to come to a nearly complete stop without using your brakes, then I would agree that you should just use your brakes for that. However, if you’re just trying to bleed off some of your speed before using your brakes, especially

He’s not wearing a wedding ring, so you may be onto something...

Personally, I quite enjoy carrying everything way out to my car. Gives me a bit of an arm/shoulder workout. I just park in the first spot I see that isn’t on the far end of the parking lot and carry things as far as necessary. It may take me a little longer to drive out of the parking lot in the end, but I don’t have

To be fair, he’s a car reviewer with an ME degree who generally asks a lot of questions about how things work whenever he meets with manufacturers, etc. While he definitely does not know everything, I would say he has a significant advantage in understanding over your typical car reviewer.

“With just the rear wheels”, you say? That’s excluding the majority of cars on the road.

It seems a bit standard considering it’s been tuned by Cosworth. You can get nearly 100 hp/L out of an N/A Honda or Toyota. Seems like a Cosworth-tuned V8 could do a little better. Not that 500 hp is bad by any means.
