Not sure I get the connection. Bale yelled at the DoP on the set of Terminator whatever it was called - that's hardly a crime. And Spacey may or may not have been in a known cottaging area (my God, do they still call it that, I wonder?) but would like to keep his personal life private. Those don't seem the same - in

Spacey? Bale? What have I missed?

Could you imagine what the public's view of Hollywood in the Golden Age would have been like if the studios hadn't wielded incredible power and had an army of publicity hacks and a sympathetic press to cover up movie stars' indiscretions, sleazy affairs, and general horribleness?

I didn't see any of the Oscars coverage and am not bothered to go looking for any video clips (unless someone here recommends a particular bit worth watching) … just checked the list of winners and am surprised that 'City of Stars' won Best Song over 'Audition' (they're both pretty forgettable, but 'Audition' is the

ah Jesus, no.

Marmite. Don't try it.

yeah, I enjoyed it at the time; can't remember anything about it now other than the look of it, which was Michael Mann-ish and all … shiny and chrome, come to think of it

Good for you for restraining yourself. I can't imagine seeing it on a 10 inch screen with shitty headphones. George Miller would be proud your first screening will be the b&w version because you'll be seeing his ideal version of the film. Rent the colour version afterwards and compare the two.

You will ride eternal shiny and chrome, brother!

I just rewatched it last week, and in a month or so I'll be going to a screening of the black & white version. Witness!

It's not a case of language evolving - it's an incorrect usage: how do you feel about 'conversate'?

I need to rewatch that. I don't remember it being completely awful. I don't remember it being great either, but that might be because I'd had my fill of big name Hollywood science-y disaster flicks around the time it came out

Can we please put a stop to the use of the verb 'to coronate'? It's actually incorrect in how it's used here. To coronate - an archaic verb - means 'to top or furnish with a corona' as in this example from a 17th century book on flowers, in which a part of a flower is described as 'being coronated with a purple

I think Taboo is going to prove to be a long walk for a short day at the beach. I was cheering the slow-burn feel of the first couple of episodes, but now it seems to be padding the story unnecessarily with stuff

Am I the only one still getting the ad for You Tube's "Rewind is coming!" even though 2016 ended weeks ago?

is that the annoying fuckwit rich guy peddling some get rich quick ponzi scheme thingy?

If it's about smelly Europeans then it's certainly not whitewashing now, is it?

This looks really quite dreadful … like The Raven level of quality (and similarly trashily burlesque in tone). If the film is anything like the trailer indicates, then it wears its influences on its sleeve; everything from The Wicker Man to A Dangerous Method to those 1970s made in the Phillipines women in captivity

Cop Land is pretty good, at least in my memory anyway, although I do remember at the time I only wanted to see it because it contained a 'serious' Stallone performance, and we were all excited about that. I'll have to watch it again and see how it holds up.
