The 2007 Colorado Springs shootings were stopped by a retired LEO who was volunteering as security. The shooter had already killed two people at another location, then came to the New Life Church and killed two more in the parking lot on the way inside the building. Jeanne Assam was the former cop who approached him,

The Texas church shooting was defused by a civilian who was willing to engage the shooter and distract him. So instead of going to his truck for more ammo, the shooter was engaged, injured, and fled.

He’s 56 I think. This was his “pre-retirement” gig I’m sure.

As long as any GVRO legislation is carefully written, it won’t violate due process any more than a typical restraining order (possibly less due to better oversight).

A pump shotgun loaded with buckshot or flechettes (much nastier) could do just as much damage to fleeing victims, at least in the ranges associated with school shootings. But, like semi-auto rifles, shotguns have practical civilian uses. There are no such practical civilian uses for burst or full-auto assault rifles.

This specific situation is why I support GVROs.

You asked a question so I was trying to provide you with the information you requested. I had no idea Ted Cruz ever said that. Of course most of them are not deliberate and warrant prosecution, but there are apparently plenty that are since convictions are increasing.

Feel free to start a campaign to repeal the 2nd Amendment. It would require a 2/3 vote in both Houses of Congress, and 3/4 of the states must ratify it in their legislatures.

“Isn’t being prevented from purchasing a gun for failing to pass the background check evidence that the law is being enforced? Being able to purchase a weapon despite not passing the background check would be a failure of the law or a failure to enforce the law.”

These features were chosen because they make rifles look more like actual assault rifles (that can fire full-auto or burst). It had nothing to do with function, which is one of the reasons the AWB had very little effect on actual crime rates.

I think the bill in question required you to be on the No-Fly List for at least ten years.

Are there any Dem Senators or Reps that support a full ban on all semi-auto rifles?

Depends on how hard the President is pushing it and if it passed the Senate first.

There are enough moderate Republicans that you don’t need the Freedom Caucus. But Dems will also have to support it even if it isn’t perfect in their eyes.

I think it has a good chance of passing. This has to be an incremental process if it’s going to happen at all.

I think those two measures would have realistically broad support. I could also maybe see implementing some kind of gun-violence restraining order (GVRO), that could be imposed by a judge. A GVRO would likely have prevented Parkland.

Honestly Dinesh D’Souza is not really a popular figure in conservative circles. He’s like Milo, he’s loud and obnoxious, and people notice him. But nobody with any power actually gives a damn what he thinks.

I think most of that group probably shouldn’t be able to purchase a firearm, but it should have included some kind of appeal process just to protect due process.

It really didn’t target mental illness at all. It prevented anyone on disability who has their checks sent to someone else from purchasing firearms, with no ability to repeal. There were a lot of mental disability advocates who were worried it would set a precedent of executive orders restricted the rights of the
