This article does actually criticize Putin. The author mentioned how Putin put Romania on Russia’s “targeting list” for hosting an Aegis Ashore facility (which is a defensive system that would be of little use against Russian missiles).

Notice how the Zumwalt-class ships are just shy of the 15,000 ton limit of the Montreux Convention (image is wrong, they’re ~14,700 t). I’m sure that’s just a coincidence...

You do realize how many carrier ops have been used in those last 30 years?

Ask Saddam in 1991 or the Iranians in 1988 could attest, carriers are a threat to be reckoned with.

Not in the slightest bit. Everything you listed are unobservable threats. Carriers are meant to be seen, as a powerful show of force. Plus nukes have only been used twice, and most players know that. They only ever would be used as a very last resort. Carriers have struck overseas targets thousands of times since

Only 3-4 super carriers are deployed at any given time due to maintenance/crew downtime.

This has nothing to do with me. I’m not flying international any time soon. I’m just trying to explain the logical reasons why such a ban would mitigate risk.

By reducing risk to passengers.

A carry-on laptop bomb could be detonated in the security check area if the passenger thought the screeners were about to find a device, or if it were fitted with a tamper initiated detonation setup. If a laptop bomb detonated in the checked-luggage area the risk of casualties is much lower.

According to DHS, they felt that passengers who were re-screened in European hubs would be sufficiently screened for US standards.

No US owned carriers fly direct routes from the cities mentioned in the ban.

You can check them as long as their installed in a device. Can’t check loose lithium ion batteries.

This is apparently in response to intercepted communications from AQAP. At least that’s what several outlets are reporting. Someone made the point that this is apparently a credible threat, as they’ve now burned the line of communications they intercepted it from.

Oh I thought it was called corporate synergy...

Geeze. That was uncalled for. I don’t even use smokeless tobacco products!
