Even if he wasn’t down (which he was), you can’t take someone’s head off like that.

Couldn't agree more. If there was no grey area in sports then yes, there would be no interpretation necessary.
A little defense from the 3 guys back would have helped too
That’s incorrect, if the same play happened but with a hand pass the hand pass wouldn’t be waived because the goalie tried to save it. The goalie is allowed to try and save the puck. There is a difference between a save attempt and puck possession.
Sorry, didn’t scroll though all the comments, just thought I’d put it up (knowledge is power!). If there was contact and the ref saw it I don’t think the ref has a choice, but i think he could have gotten away with a 4. Was there a fight or anything later in the game?
Penalty options in the NHL for a butt end are double minor, major+game, or match. 4 for an attempt (no contact), 5+game for any kind of contact made, match for an injury.
But have you had Timbits???
Sorry if it’s been said before, but he was skating backwards with his hand in his pockets and caught an edge. And obviously no helmet.
Thank you for sharing Barry
The U23 team gets first pick
Lupul just giving it to him after haha
Not calling penalties doesn’t make it personal, just judgement. If he missed a call then he has supervisors he has to answer to. If he really wanted to kick Maruice out because “it was personal” he could have easily done it in the 2nd. The refs gave him a chance to cool off at the intermission, but he didn’t so he got…
So the guys on the ice making a fraction of the salary of what coaches and players are making are supposed to be above all of the emotion that goes on at ice level? Maurice absolutely had a right to be upset but he made it personal, that’s why he got kicked out.
It’s something around $70 a week, nothing they can live off of, but because of this stipend they are NCAA Div. 1 ineligible.
That move just broke my clavicle
What if a referee “accidentally” did this to a player? People would be losing their shit! Shouldn’t players and referee’s be held to the same standard?

Not when someone is motionless on the ice.
I wouldn't go that far.
Took the words right out of my mouth
