You can feel the ribs breaking if you are in the wrong place, or applying too much force. Re-position your hands a leetle higher up the sternum and try, try again. We want a bouncy, bouncy sternum, depressing about 2-3"... Perfuse that patient, people! I wannna see pink toes!

Same. It was don't worry about breaking a rib, that will heal. Saving a life was more important.

Same here.

I distinctly remember our instructor telling us it happens, but not to worry about it. Pretty sure most people would take a broken rib over dead.

During my CPR classes, I was taught that if I was doing CPR right, there was a chance I'd break the injured person's ribs.

My mom was 40 and my dad was 42 when they had me. I remember being embarrassed in middle school because my friends' parents were usually 10-15 years younger than my parents...BUT once I got older I realized how amazing I had it. They waited until they had lived really cool, full lives and were at a comfortable place

I had my first at 37 and my second at 39 (I'm almost 44 now). We are constantly out with the kids biking, hiking, taking them skiing, going on beach vacations and teaching them to surf, running around at the park, going to the pool in the summer, whatever. We would be doing all that stuff anyway, but it's more fun

People live longer now and have a better quality of life at ages that were formerly thought of as advanced. A 50-year-old parent of a teenager and an 8-year old (for example) would have much more energy than what previous generations show. We just know how to live better, on general, nowadays.

Of all the reasons to time your family, I'ma share my pet peeve: A lot of big deal is made out of being able to "throw a ball" with your kid before you're too old (I see a lot of grandparents still able to interact with their much younger children, so I don't get this AT ALL)- a stupid way to gauge when you should

My dad was 44 and my mom 36 and they are the best parents ever. I think being young at heart is key. My dad is closing in on 70 and walk s the dog every day, travels frequently, and enjoys the fuck outta retirement. Not to mention, by waiting to have kids, my parents were financially secure in a way they wouldn't have

Yes, from a public health perspective it matters, but doubling/tripling can still be relatively benign depending on the rate. If the rate was .01% before, and it doubles to .02% after (not saying that's the case here, just an example) then you don't have to worry terribly. But even 3 per thousand versus 1.5 per

A+ all around. Just wanted to chime in and say that a big reason studies linking paternal age to birth defects are hard to find is because it hasn't been studied until fairly recently. Even then, it pales in comparison to the numbers done about maternal age. I find this really surprising, because of the studies I have

It's okay, people would still be like, "but I don't want to hang out with all the weird OLD PARENTS" anyway.

So before the "BUT BIRTH DEFECTS" brigade comes marching in, let's consider the per capita rates of various issues based on maternal age. We will assume that paternal age is either a non-factor or constant at "whatevs" because this is about women being shamed into babby-making, not the other way around.) Also because

Yes.

Hmmmm! Curiouser and curiouser! ^^ Maaaan, see? Even back in the 60s they figured out that chicks dig the satanic look. Ol' Doug seems to have just discovered this.

Uhhh... "new"? Doug, did you totally miss the past 3 decades? Did the whole vampire thing pass you by? Were you sleeping or playing football when "Sandman" came out? What about the zombie fad? What about the gorgeously golden Brandon Lee painted into the hypersexy deadman-clown Eric Draven, or the equally

These sanctuaries exist to pick up the pieces when private ownership inevitably gone wrong. Also a lot of them are not properly run.

Basically, if it's to be a "rescue" or "Sanctuaries", I believe there will also be a breeding ban for those. Because it makes no sense for them to breed, as it serves no real purpose to the breed.

I also heard they're trying to pass a standard, as well, on what constitutes a sanctuary, rescue, etc.

Could you address how this bill is going to affect Wildlife Sanctuaries such as this one and others?
