It was a gift to Marvel that they didn’t control the screen rights to Spider-Man or the X-Men, because if they had, they would’ve almost certainly made standalones with those characters rather than trying to do a shared universe. There would’ve probably never been an Avengers movie, and there definitely wouldn’t have

The FF are also an opportunity to have a “cosmic” branch of the MCU now that Guardians is done.

The thing about FF is, it’s got SO much potential still. It has the opportunity to take the wild cosmic comedy of GOTG and combine it with good drama. It could be the next flagship for the MCU if they nail it.

if there was ever a Marvel show that just screams missed opportunities and poor decisionmaking, it’s this one

Yeah! It made Talos’ death ultimately pointless as it wasn’t really used as a plot point and the other characters weren’t able to emote or process this. Am sad as Mendelson as Talos was a real highlight, but can imagine he wanted out and to avoid the prosthetics.

They killed Maria Hill for this?

Yeah. I wasn’t shocked when they killed Maria Hill because, well, Marvel hasn’t known what to do with her in years and that made her the “right” character to kill off in order to raise the stakes. That’s not something I’m in favor of but I think we’re all familiar with it as a pretty standard (lazy?) storytelling

So true, I enjoyed the quiet moments in this series where the actors could actually act. If you’ve got Ben Mendelhson might as well use him, and it was great to see Samuel L Jackson play a fallible hero and not a badass for a change.

I KNOW!!

Best part of this show was Olivia Coleman. It’s not even a contest

Disney+ has delivered a nearly unbroken string of shows rated 90+% among audiences and critics (and, no, it’s a myth that critics only watch the first two episodes, you can see they rate all the episodes highly). Their success rate for shows is far better than their success rate for movies. The two lowest-rated MCU

He gives a big old speech about how he was broken by having to kill one innocent person and the only way he can share his pain is to kill ALL of the innocent people and maybe a bunch of Skrulls?

Imagine if the whole story would have been about what happens after the presidents announcement. Spy stuff. Instead of... everything else we got.

The President declaring Skrulls Enemy #1 should have happened in Episode 1. The stakes would have been much, much, much higher for absolutely every character.

Marvel is increasingly showing this weird habit of taking really high-minded modern ideas and then sanitizing them so they’re toothless or demonizing them to the point that the ideas themselves are dangerous before throwing them away so no one can ever talk about them again. I think this has to be the worst, most

But hey we got an All powerful New Girl Boss who can kick everyone’s ass including Capt Marvel ,so yeah !

The death of Maria Hill is even more pointless when you look at the role Vaara played.

Thank you for this write up. Now I don’t have to watch it. What a terrible disappointment.

You shut your rare-earth, transition metal mouth, Yttrium. AoS was fun, and several of us really liked it!

So. I watched every episode and I thought it started fine. Not great, not terrible, but...fine. I felt it was a perfectly cromulent start to a show - the unnecessary killing of Maria Hill notwithstanding.
