That never occurred to me.  IMDB(which I know is not the end all be all source) credit the character as “The Doctor” and he is never referred to as “Doctor Who” in the show itself as far as I’m aware of.

Disney not pandering to your expectations for male Lucas legacy characters does not mean they don’t know how to handle them. To use some TV Tropes archetypes, sounds like you wanted “Older and Wiser” or the “Old Soldier” trope, but you got “Broken Heroes.”
