Odd. Where did the moon go?
Odd. Where did the moon go?
Maybe not the greatest, but the first appearance of the Martian spaceship scared the crap out of me as a kid.
The problem - and this ain't a new problem - is that Hollywood knows shit-all about science-fiction. If Hollywood proucers did, they might adapt Man Plus by Frederik Pohl, which actually deals with mature themes on the nature of humanity; or perhaps something dealing with conflict between biologically altered and…
I was about to say the same thing. I enjoyed the sequels but that was definitely one of the cheesier concepts. Am I the only one who is convinced someone else wrote the follow-up books? They're as different from Hyperion as Hyams' 2010 was to Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Well, I think you nailed why the film is so enduring. The (painful) truth is that TMP was a better Star Trek film, based on Roddenberry's goal of using the Trek as a vehicle to explore the human adventure; but Nicholas Meyer watched the early episodes and immediately understood that it was the characters that were so…
Still one of my favourite films of all time. Brilliant and ahead of its time on many levels. Great choice.
Tar Trek: Boldly building roads where no roads have gone before.
Love the Pink Floyd slam at the end.
Must. Stop. Staring. At. Sailor. Moon.
Krypton? Zero interest. But Kandor? That could be interesting.
As long as it's not that he gets to kiss the girl. Let it go, Bill.
The mystery is what on Earth would possess anyone over 12 to keep watching all the way to the end of the Season 4?
The Peter Pan subplot had great potential but just seemed to drag and drag. Like everything in the show really. By the middle of last season, it really felt like they had no sense of direction at all. I think they wrote a pilot and a finale, and the rest they're just making up as they go along. And you know what? That…
You pretty much summed up why I had to stop watching last year. Dumb, dumb characters who deserve every bad thing that happens to them. Commenters who suggest that it's not fair to knock the show because it's fantasy and corny completely miss the point. It can be all those things AND smart. Sadly, OUAT isn't.
I am definitely fascinated by science-fiction and its relation to science. I'm also intrigued by mainstream antipathy toward SF (and this current, sad, obsession with dystopic futures.)
I'd actually love to see this done with the Animated Series. Many of the episodes - Yesteryear in particular - weren't bad. And they feature the voices of the original cast as a bonus. But, change that music! It was pretty awful.
Adorable. yes. We're hot, too.
Seriously. The last film was so derivative, so badly written, that it made Star Trek V look like 2001: A Space Odyssey. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if reboot 3 begins with William Shatner as Kirk waking up next to Suzanne Pleshette and describing a bizarre dream in which he was a partner of a crazy Boston…
If it fails, it will have nothing to do with the quality. This is about mainstream television's general aversion to superhero shows. Lord knows how Heroes lasted so long, though. I expect The Flash to be a million times better, based on Arrow, which does everything right that Heroes did wrong.
I came into Arrow a little late because I don't trust the networks not to cancel a show after 5 episodes. But, I was immediately impressed by the writing, which made up for some weak acting in the first half of season one. But, wow, did everyone improve as the season progressed! I think Flash is aimed lower based on…
