I miss going to gamestop and finding employees that know more about games than I do. I’d talk for a while and end up buying something because I felt bad about hanging out there so long and I felt I owed them a sale.

Not only will it not make money, but if they honestly roll out this idea to more stores, it will kill them even faster, as remodels, even simple ones cost money and will need extra space. Read more

No, I thought it was decent enough too (although I saw it much later on streaming - perhaps I’d feel differently if I’d paid for a theater ticket), but if you want something to be the lynchpin and starting point for a successful crossover franchise, “decent” won’t cut it.

Yep. Same with DC who saw that sweet Avengers money and tried to do things backwards with the team-up movies without actually taking the time to build their universe.

Totally agree. Rush to catch up? Why is it even a competition? Just don’t release the movies on the same weekend as something else predicted to be huge until you have enough momentum going to not care anymore.

The guy who discovered aluminum spelled it “aluminum” (eventually), but the accepted spelling is actually “aluminium”. You naturally lose creative control when you share something with others, because at the end of the day public consensus matters more than what you originally wanted.

It’s oddly satisfying that this story is running in February and not within the Hoppin’ John window of Dec. 26 - Jan. 2. Can’t explain the reason. Maybe I just hate food being pigeonholed.

Grew up eating my abuela’s arroz con gris as a regular staple in the house (not sure where/how/why the entymological split happened but depending on where you came from in Cuba, arroz con gris was also known as moros y cristianos or simply congri, plus I’m sure there are other names as well). I can think of no comfort Read more

We don't even save money with this fucked up health care system. Americans are just so stupid they fight and scream to pay far more for worse care.

Azcue told the Herald, “How can they expect normal citizens to contribute to eliminating the potential risk of person-to-person spread if hospitals are waiting to charge us $3,270 for a simple blood test and a nasal swab?” Read more

What’s really mystifying is that they seemed to think they had to rush this to “keep up” with Marvel. It’s not a race to see who can culminate their shared universe first. Marvel was 4 or 5 movies in (depending on whether or not you feel the Ed Norton Hulk “counts”) before they had any hints of crossover other than a Read more

I mourn the demise of the DU solely for the loss of Javier Bardem as The Monster. Because that, THAT would have been fantastic. Give me that Frankenstein (yes, yes I know) - the smart, deliberately dangerous one - played by Bardem? Read more

I mean, don’t eat there? I’m only half serious, but there are lots of restaurants at different price points depending on what kind of experience you are looking for. You can buy $5 cup cakes in every city in America now, or you can still buy a pack of 12 for about $3 at the local grocery store. Street festivals have Read more

There are two within walking distance of where I live in work (though we call them “markets” rather than food halls) and they are a godsend.
