How long have you been waiting to use that headline?
I wasn’t able to sit through all of Fingersmith on the BBC, I found it dull and more than a little contrived - in contrast, The Handmaiden was just spectacular. Every choice from the cinematography to the setting to the costume design, the acting, the characters... just perfect.
I don’t think there is a Tragedy of the Commons. I think there’s a tragedy of thinking things - anything, everything - doesn’t need maintenance, supervision and course correction.
Unless I’m misremembering, this is a much simpler story than a longer work like Death Note or Fullmetal Alchemist to adapt. The themes were fairly straightforward thriller/drama with a mostly realistic setting and characters and a gutpunch ending.
