My roommate let his 80-something Corolla go some ungodly distance, tens of thousands of miles, before he changed the oil. Only about a quart drained out. He ran it for another few years after that.

This oil fact is the most entertaining one I’ve seen. Basically don’t put synthetic in your old-ass engine because you may find out that the new oil cleans things too well and the old oil was the only thing holding things together.
