The problem is that underneath his attack platform, the biggest message he had was that he would help out the rust belt with the jobs that have just flat vanished. Yes, he spent an inordinate amount of time being a massive bigoted buffoon, but underneath it, he had a campaign based on legitimately trying to help out

Almost sounds like their ad campaign:D

I think you’re on the right track, but the range demand is really going to be a function of recharge time. If you could recharge in 5 minutes with a 200 mile range, I think you’d potentially be looking at greater acceptance than 500 mile ranges with 8 hour recharges. Heck, I know I want to take a break now and then

I bought a Porsche with zero paper service records. ZERO RECORDS. Not even a damn Jiffy Lube window sticker.

I mean, the electric motor is already far, far better than the internal combustion engine in pretty much every objective metric...

A more serious question, why do they need a new name? Geely sounds just fine. Or if that’s not good enough, couldn’t they just call it “Volvo”??? Or if it is a pure electric sub-brand, call it “E-Vo”?

I wholeheartedly disagree with the notion that this will be “affordable”. I mean, the Focus RS is $40K+, which isn’t to say it’s not worth it because it is. But there’s no WAY a high-powered Austrian-built Supra will be less than $60K.

Or maybe, it is because average people don’t enjoy driving. For most people, nearly all of them spending zero time on Jalopnik, cars are merely utilities that make transportation easier, more-convenient and (in some cases) more cost-effective than biking, walking, riding horses and buggies, or public transport.

There might not be a “right” answer, but that doesn’t mean we should at the very least devote some energy to figuring out the least wrong answer.

Long while back, Buicks were the choice of professionals, like doctors and salesmen, who wanted the look of success without appearing as they were taking their clients to the cleaners. It was just one step from “arriving” as what people nowadays call it.

This may be true but the cost of those rural sales may just not be worth it anymore to Cadillac. You could also buy a Cadillac and have it serviced at a Chevy dealership much easier than you can buy a German competitor and have it serviced by your local Ford/GM/Chrysler dealership.

I am sure they would be able to tell you lots of interesting things about the Self Driving Uber. Like how long did it take to strip it down to a bare frame?

There is where you are wrong. The adoption rate is much more dependent on cost than practicality.
Currently electric cars are still more expensive, despite their operating cost savings. That and the general public doesn’t understand how/where to charge them.

An electric car with a 300 mile range should be plenty fine as

They do currently for GT350 buyers. As well as Focus RS, and Fiesta and Focus ST

Oh man you were only getting 40? I get 43ish going to Santa Barbara, when there isn’t any traffic, and I’m generally hauling ass (under 80 though). And that’s even with non eco tires, I’ve got sticky Michelin AS3's on the car! That’s why I love the car so damn much.

Mind you, the thermal efficiency that engine designers are chasing is absolutely possible with port injection - Toyota has a 40% efficient variant of the 2ZR-FXE, with only port injection, that’s in production today. (2016+ Prius has it.) And, that’s one of highest thermal efficiency production gasoline engines

It wasn’t considered noteworthy.

Honda Element - will run forever, back seat has more legroom than any car I’ve ever seen (though it’s a pain to get into when in a parking lot with cars on either side due to backwards opening doors), inside is plastic - super easy to clean out and did I mention it runs forever?

Hey, maybe it was Audi guy’s second time around, and this time he pinned the throttle.
