Right, I get that. I just don’t want the focus to be off of where it should be, which is Ohio State as an institution, and particularly with the head coaches and administrators during Strauss’s tenure. If Jordan was just another assistant coach and not currently a representative, would there be as much attention on

I agree. He wasn’t charged with oversight in the way that head coaches and administrators always are, though.

The focus isn’t or shouldn’t be on Jim Jordan, who is a peripheral figure in what happened at Ohio State. It should be on Ohio State as an institution, one that either tacitly or actively enabled decades of sexual abuse to occur. It happened over what I’m sure were many different administrators’ tenures, and some or

It just reaffirms that their true priority is white male supremacy and everything that encompasses, whether it’s the subjugation of women and people of color, complete dominance in business and government, and consuming the planet’s resources to assist their efforts at doing those things. Religion is the cover story.

Of course it can happen in the so-called “civilized” world. Germany was tremendously advanced leading up to Hitler’s dictatorship, and then the Holocaust. Thanks to the stories we tell ourselves, mixed with the ability to dodge responsibility for our actions, mixed with deep tribalism, it can most certainly happen

Homicide was a prototype run for The Wire. The Wire had access to resources and freedoms that Homicide didn’t and couldn’t have. I don’t think Homicide comes close to The Wire in terms of consistent greatness or overall quality, but that’s okay. It had its moments too and it set the stage for The Wire.

This is sad and all too similar to the endless number of women who are physically and emotionally abused, only to decline to press charges and/or leave.

Yes, I think I remember that now. I imagine that the most you hoped for at the time was “beat Jordan once.”

I’m old enough to remember when Jordan owned Cleveland (among other locations in his real estate portfolio). I think the last time was in 1993, or thereabouts. It’s hard to remember for sure now. Anyway, I doubt people in Cleveland ever imagined that someday, one of their own would be Jordan’s peer and do the same

We know from people who have covered Jordan that he was burnt out in the summer of 1993. People sort of write in that time off as being automatically great without considering his mental state. I’m sure he would have been statistically amazing, but I’m not sure he was where he needed to be in order to keep winning

If you see the world as varying degrees of threatening, and you see black men in particular as generally threatening, it makes sense that a frequent outcome is the shooting of black men (no matter whether they’re armed or otherwise dangerous).

I was just there a couple weeks ago and it makes sense that they didn’t let her in dressed like this. I think many of their policies are written with the art and work as being of paramount importance, and anything that could put those things at risk at all will probably be removed or asked to leave.

MSH is a high-achieving student body. It’s the kind of school that sends out future professionals and other people who make an impact in the world. I expect we’ll be seeing and hearing from those who attend the school in the years and decades to come.

Edit: Nevermind.

No.

If I never see either his name or that damned book title again, it will still be too soon.

If it was false, she would say so (i.e. “these allegations are completely false.”). That’s not what she said, much as I wish she had.

Edit: Responded later in the thread.

Canceled my subscription over this. Meanwhile, virtually at the same time, the Washington Post used real fact-checking to uncover a sting attempt against them. I’m glad to already be a Post subscriber.
