Nvidia has been doing this for years, it’s one of the biggest reasons why games tend to run more smoothly on Nvidia hardware compared to AMD hardware. The other half being that yes, Nvidia has historically invested more in its drivers too.

This is one of the reasons I stick with PC as my primary platform. Even if games are removed from storefronts, they remain available to download in my libraries. That said, it seems like consoles (except maybe Nintendo’s) are committing to backwards compatibility for the foreseeable future. The PS5 can play all PS4

Not seeing how that’s relevant.. Epic’s store is only on PC which doesn’t normally get physical releases anyways. Why would that effect console physical copies? Even Fortnite has physical versions on console.

As someone who has dabbled with a few game releases, I assure you that having a disk release does put a lot of pressure on development and effectively means having to cut corners (ie quality and scope) to rush to have a build ready 3+ months ahead of release that passes all the certification and can get printed on

Pretty much this. It’s all snake oil. Another example would be Realtors and everything associated with that shit hole business.

Here’s a not so secret secret, insurance companies don’t want to cover anyone. That’s how they make money, by taking your money and giving you nothing in return, then when they do HAVE TO do something, they fight you for every penny hoping you give up. Then the next year they raise your rates because you dared to use

I don’t think a new engine would inherently cause a delay. Game A could be in pre-production while Game B is in active development, and they could have the engine ready for use on eventual Game C, even Game D. You could also build it with mod support fully in mind if so inclined, smaller studios have managed it.

Sorry, you seem to have missed that part where I professionally make money from writing software. It’s easy to miss, being literally the first line.

More likely that the hardware in the PS5 and Xbox X is based on architectures closing in on 5 years old. Added to the fact that the CPU and GPU are undervolted and underclocked so as to not melt the consoles’ plastic housings and it becomes clearer why 30FPS@4k is reasonable.

You took my words in the spirit they were intended

sometimes good, sometimes you are attacked by a rhinoceros.

Idk when there was kind of a lax creative control you could get some really fun games out of it. The need to integrate everything into canon means we don’t really get any creative or interesting ideas.

As mixed as I am about Remake, I do agree that the best thing about that game is the combat system.  They smartly found a middle ground between traditional turn base combat, and more modern RPGs.

Unpopular opinion ‘round these parts but I really hope the next Zelda moves away from the BotW formula. Or if they do another open world, they experiment with balancing away from crafting and towards large, intricate, clever dungeons, which were always the heart and soul of Zelda for me. But between Elden Ring and

ofc darling, your welcome :)

very that and it’s part of why i became a writer. i love the adaptation and mutation of words and their meanings. it’s so fascinating to me

Fun fact, the actual game of the original FF7 fit onto a single disc, and in fact all three discs contained the data for the full game, all the textures and music and gameplay data. The only thing different was which cutscene FMVs were stored on each disc, as that was the majority of the data usage.

i like the way you painted that, the idea of the game’s world being so large you’re almost physically holding it between two discs. it’s evocative. also re: headline, you’re reading that right. the phrase “it’s giving...” is used a lot in queer spaces to describe a particular vibe someone or something is giving off

Cloud’s Mum, as secret unlockable party member, confirmed!?!

The third installment of the FFVII Remake trilogy, currently unnamed, will be released in the future.”
