He's an Iron Fist from the comics. Specifically the Immortal Iron Fist series, which is widely regarded as the best Iron Fist run ever.
And the history of outsiders coming into K'un lun (at least in the comics) is a deeply weird one.

David Wenham was having a hell of a Time by the looks of him.

Considering Orson thinks the fist is a curse, not a blessing, maybe he thinks that would have stopped them making any more Iron Fists

Then yeah, I can't remember whether they flat out say it, but I think you're correct.

Have you seen the whole run of episodes?

David Carradine would have been a great in joke if he played Orson.

Isn't there a panel from one of the comics where maybe Orson? Says something like, "you got this awesome power and you only use it to hit people? You're about the only Iron Fist who took the name so literally. "

After seeing someone else's comment, that's why I put it in quotes!

I hope we get to see Orson at some point, and the Pirate Queen of Pinghai bay.

Something something, Iron fisting.

I could see either being true, given how much of the Iron Fist mythology this show has done weird things with.

I was thinking it was a trap the whole time. I don't know exactly what's going on with her, but I suspect she has much more going on than we've seen yet. If she turns out to be Nick Fury I wouldn't be entirely surprised.

Yeah, I kind of wonder if they're going to turn out to be either K'un lun rebels, or from one of the other seven cities of heaven

Fair point.

To be fair to LK, who's one of my favorites, according to the canon Danny's really only scratching the surface yet.
And if he'd STFU and listen occasionally there's probably a lot more he could have learned.

Assuming they're going to follow the comic books, it's a video game kind of thing. The more he levels up the more often he can use it. There's also some other stuff he can do with it, one of which shows up in a later episode.
I truly hope we get to see the book of the Iron Fist and/or Orson Randall in the future. Then

At this point Danny's basically a Jedi who's only 'mastered' one force power.

I think he pretty much ran for it, yeah.

I also think starting me off with a desert planet was a tactical error, because after a while I could hardly stand to look at all that boring sand.

By far my favorite biotic power ever, throwing yourself at enemies like meth crazed space marine with a shotgun.
