Exactly. First boyfriend was from Franklin Lakes - I was appalled about how racist people were there, especially how many were outright racist to the Lebanese family in town.

My FB also posted a picture of her son's crack while he was playing plumber and FB removed it for obscenity reasons. He's two for Chrissakes.

Exactly. My former mentor was from New Orleans but her grandfather was from the northern part which she called ArTexLa. She said it was night and day.

Something you'd like to talk about, Holla?

I mean, maybe it's because I stayed in the college part of Richmond, but Richmond was straight-up crazy. The college's bible clubs were super aggressive about people converting to their religion, even off campus. It was unnerving.

I know certain schools in South Carolina do allow it - but overall, it is getting phased out. The elementary school my son is starting at handed us a five page pamphlet on corporal punishment. We thought it was going to be one of those things where we have to opt out of corporal punishment, but instead it was a

It's the same with the NY Metro area. Leave the city, and it's all WASPs, accidental racists, and intentional racists.

I'm actually surprised to learn that the Carolinas were in the top ten. Aside from the bible-belt portion of South Carolina, the people I've met down here (aside from Sheriffs and Politicians) have the attitude of "do what you want, just don't raise our taxes, and stay the Hell of my lawn." I have met maybe one or two

That's been happening a lot lately, especially during the summer months. As benefits get cut, people are unable to feed their families.

In my city (Columbia, SC) charity workers aren't allowed to give food to go. City officials think it promotes vagrancy (this was also the city that wanted to make homelessness illegal). Since my husband and I were dead broke with a young child, we would bring a canvas tote bag to lunch and the nice soup kitchen

Exactly! My family was reliant on a food bank and let me tell you something: canned green beans and rice gets really old after a while. Now, when I donate to food banks I make sure I donate things that are different than the normal staples, such as jarred sauces, just-add-water baking mixes, and nice pastas.

Yeah, I felt totally in control at 17. I was a tough cookie.

I had an English professor that said we should just call slurs by their full names, instead of "the n-word", "the c-word", etc. He said that by abbreviating it, it was stripping the word of its awfulness and somehow making it okay.

Yeah his common line during AA meetings is "I'm not surprised I became an alcoholic at 25...what surprises me is that it took 25 years for me to become an alcoholic"

She harrassed him non-stop, said awful, abusive things to him, and then sent him a case of vodka right after he left rehab. So yeah...I call that active.

That's it - I hurt for her. My husband has accepted that she is going to die at this point, but I just hate that it's going on. We live 13 states away and have a pending restraining order on the mom since she actively tried to sabotage my husband's sobriety. We offered his sister to leave the situation and live with

That's what I love about the practice that I take my sons to (they are 1 and 5) - the doctors/nurses/etc. always say things like "I'm going to touch your chest now (when using a stethoscope) but it's okay because I'm a doctor and your parents are in the room. If you feel uncomfortable at any time, please tell me." It

I'm so sorry that you were raped.

That's really interesting - I would have never suspected that. Then again, I always forget about the light sensitivity thing with hormonal birth control.

Yeah, her mother is an abusive POS, which is why we severed ties with her. It doesn't help that mommy dearest has had multiple procedures and blames her three(!) failed marriages on the fact that she was "too fat" or "not youthful enough".
