You’re welcome!
Playing Elvis, which dozens of actors have, can absolutely make a career if done well. Kurt Russell catapulted himself to the A List when he did it in the 1979 biopic (he’d previously been stuck in hokey Disney fare) , and Jonathan Rhys Meyers similarly lifted his status (and picked up a Golden Globe) when he did the…

You’re welcome! I try to go through the greys as the evening progresses, and the next day to reply to people (if I have response), or at least “star” and bring them out of the greys.
I watched some episodes of Celebrity Rehab. So gross. In theory I can see how showing what rehab and addiction is like as a possible deterrent. But its very difficult to not cross that line into gross exploitation.
“Dr. Drew” is so gross. I watched a season of Couples Therapy - I think that’s what it was called, anyway - with the celebrities, and it just left me disgusted.
Also, Stranger Things hardly glamorizes smoking. The two main people that do it are Hopper and Joyce, and it is very evident that they do it out of stress. It’s shown in the same light that Hopper guzzling beer and pills and Joyce being a little unhinged is. No one would ever watch those characters smoke and think “oh…
I live in Tokyo. Smoking is STILL everywhere here (it’s slightly better than when I first arrived but still horrible). Multiple American friends never smoked at home but started here as adults because everyone is and it’s cheap. Because it’s normalized. Normalization of things matters.
“Portwood has also spoken openly about her struggles with drug and alcohol abuse, borderline personality and bipolar disorder, and self-harm.”
As she should. She’s obviously in no shape to be a parent at this point.
“I’ve got an illness, so I’m helpless against what I do.”
With that combo of diagnoses and domestic violence in the presence of the child, she’s going to lose custody again.
Tumblr can be such a cesspool. Ive seen people say its “ableist” to call out abusive behavior by someone who is mentally ill.
Amber is hard to get behind because she’s one of those people who can talk the talk about mental illness and her struggles, but there doesn’t seem to ever be a fundamental change in her behavior. She may have stopped the drug use but she’s still quick to anger, defensive, aggressive, rude and unwilling to accept…
Yeah, working in mental health, the hardest people to work with were those who...
Important to not use mental health issues as an excuse to be terrible to people.
These shows are pure exploitation. The worst part is they act like there’s some sort of “therapeutic” angle by having “Doctor” Drew do the interviews.
Hopefully she gets the help she needs. I have a few friends that have struggled with mental health and addiction. Obviously its no fucking joke. One just now found a combination of meds that she can live with, 10 years after her diagnosis. Important to not use mental health issues as an excuse to be terrible to…
