I don’t disagree, necessarily, but I think — at least at this particular juncture in the U.S. — this is a stronger force in the GOP than the Democratic party. And I think this party discipline/loyalty difference is related to the deep troubles with the GOP.

No. Pence is awful, but he’s bound by some twisted set of ideals. Being completely unmoored by self-doubt and human decency makes Trump fundamentally more dangerous. Lots of countries have had bad leaders, but if he were put in charge, Trump would be a disaster with a special place in history.

So does anyone actually still believe that John McCain has any kind of principles? I stopped believing that after the 2008 election cycle but that wasn’t enough to convince some people. Surely they’ve changed their minds by now, right?

There is nothing this man won’t do to get what he wants. He feels no remorse or guilt, he is a pathological liar, he lacks empathy and compassion, he is unreliable, he exhibits poor behavioral controls, he is manipulative, and he thinks he can do anything he wants because he is smarter and better than anyone else.
