Worst thing I've been called: a fucking "wetback" (derogatory term for Mexican). And I called the cops.
Yeah. She's awful. Make sure you get involved to defeat her reelection bid next year!
Exactly. I always tell people this: dental surgery is gross, too. Medical procedures are gross.
That part of Lake of Fire is one of my favorite parts in cinema of all time. It was an incredibly astute analysis, and something I've long believed to be true of the anti-choice members.
Buerkle's your rep? I'm going to be doing voter mobilization work in her district next year (I'm in Ithaca, but I'm doing voter work in a 3-hour travel radius). She is truly one of the worst congresspersons we've had in awhile.
I had the fortune of knowing Dr. Tiller from work I did in reproductive health policy. I've never, in my entire life, known a more thoughtful, courageous, dedicated human being. And I'm very sorry and sickened to say that it was practically a known fact that he would be killed by these extremists. He had some of the…
Awww, shucks. I do what I can (lady, by the way). :)
I'm sorry to hear this—I can only imagine how hard it must be to have this health issue weighing on you.
DES was eventually proven to be useless in preventing miscarriages. The University of Chicago published a study in 1953, giving half the pregnant subjects DES and the other half a placebo. They found no difference in pregnancy complications between the two subject groups (in other words, miscarriage rates were the…
Thanks for the response. Since I wasn't sure in what capacity you worked with your tobacco client, I was curious about the transparency piece, as I'd stated earlier.
No, I'm sorry to say that the risk of cancers (breast and vaginal) is increased for DES mothers and DES daughters. The exposure has been proven to impact transgenerationally.
This was a great article, and if Laura Blue's future work can further implicate the role of tobacco in the "Hispanic Paradox," this will be a major breakthrough in this work (the Hispanic Paradox was actually first discovered 25 years ago, and it still remains a counterintuitive mystery for health and bio fields).
That quote actually came from a commenter on Scientific American's site, not from the actual article.
One nice thing I can say is that because it's such a heavily scrutinized industry, they operate with a lot of transparency and accountability, even in developing markets
Marlboro is actually the 17th most recognized global brand, but that's still very high (Coca Cola is #1, IBM #2, etc): [www.businessweek.com]
I'm glad you mentioned infant mortality issue. This is another part of the "Hispanic Paradox" (the negative correlation between health and income/education that only affects Latinos). Latinas are the least likely to have access to prenatal and neonatal care, but still experience healthier deliveries and lower infant…
If you'll look at Latinos raised/born in the US, they experience heart disease and other maladies as much as (if not more than) the general population
No such thing as "inexperienced" if you know how to have pleasurable sex. :) I said you sound like "da bomb" because it sounds like you have a healthy attitude about your sex/uality that results in satisfaction, and you're willing to communicate with your partner/s in what sounds like a very mutually enriching way! As…
