I can see doing Messiah (which is quite short) and letting the series end on a “There’s big things coming for these two kids, but especially THIS KID!” pointing at Leto.

I suspect this show was not exactly cheap to film since it was actually shot in Hawaii and doesn’t have the audience to justify its cost.
