Although the top trim of the US Corolla has grown on me, I think the international version looks better. It’s still got the big mouth, but it’s not quite as aggressive and shares a stronger connection to the Camry. I don’t understand why Toyota of America felt the need to alter the design.

The only bit that looks ugly to me is that weird droopy nose above the grille.

I really like the turbo 4 in my BMW wagon. Torque curve is as flat as the ‘proper’ BMW engines I’ve driven before and it’s just as fast, but I pretty routinely get 32-33mpg highway cruising. A straight 6 would be cool for the cool factor, but I’d have a hard time arguing for it in practical terms. It also helps that

I’d be very willing to buy a PHEV today if I were in the market for a new car whereas I wouldn’t even consider an EV.  They seem like the best of both worlds without the compromises that EVs have. I’m not sure where all the hate for PHEVs is coming from.

Don’t empower them. They’ve totslly abused it here.

I think that’s a reference to how in some states you are a “licensed owner” in that there’s one initial background check to get a card and with the card, you can buy go and buy a gun by just showing the card and ID. They of course check to see if the card is valid.

Do we have evidence that automotive OEMs account for a tiny fraction of their business? I feel like it could be a fairly significant portion given how many electronics a modern car has......

The buzzword and in this case killer is called “just in time” inventory control. In fact Toyota was one of the instigators of this practice. Lack of supply is starting to affect some Toyota models and certain trim levels. For instance some RAV4 Prime buyers are only receiving one key fob and are being promised the

We really need to bring back company towns.

Did you watch the video? I’m pretty sure she’s something other than a white woman.

First gear: In American, only companies can spy on you, the government can’t. In China, the opposite is true. One country is heading toward Gibson’s Neuromancer nightmare, the other towards Orwell’s 1984. Sadly, neither is heading towards St. Thomas More’s Utopia.

My rental for my Easter weekend visit to mom was a 2021 Jeep Compass and I’m hard-pressed to understand why anyone would want one.

Fiero owner here.  These are (unfortunately) not worth that much coin.

A cult following doesn’t actually mean the car is better. Just weirder. The Subaru Baja has a cult following, it’s not actually an amazing car.

Fuel economy is maybe my 10th priority when buying a vehicle though.

I like it

Nah. This project looks Doomed. Overly ambitious and complicated to ever be an enjoyable track car.

I’d argue those are completely different market segments. People who want a small, light, and tossable coupe aren’t suddenly going to go buy a Challenger instead...just like someone in the market for a 5 series isn’t going to go buy a decked out Camry even though they may have similar options on paper.

Yes, you are one person. Enthusiast new car buyers just aren’t a large group of people.

I enjoy your optimism, and I hope you’re right because then I’d buy one. But....I’ll believe it when I see it.
