They’re quite different though. I could give you a list of differences. The were a raft of new requirements in ‘96 which no JDM car meets.

I see people driving around on antique plates around here like they’re regular plates. Meaning they’re ignoring the driving restrictions.
They’re not cheap. They’re more expensive than an equivalent US imported car from that time. People are buying them because they’re unique and interesting. Not because they’re cheap, because they aren’t.
Federalized imports were brought up to the safety standards required at the time they were imported right? I’d think that would be their out.
Yes. As long as you have enough HP, the limit is in software.
No follow up by responding police nearly guarantees a clean get away.
Are they getting the loose wiring or going through the electrical tape and wire loom cover? I’ve taken to re-protecting any loose wiring with split loom and tape in hopes it’ll keep them off my wires.
This is a rural area. These guys probably drove drunk 100's of time before it finally caught up to them. Cops can’t help if there aren’t any around.
Then they’ll just drive with no licence. I’d be happier just taking their cars but, this smacks of civil asset forfeiture which is just outright theft.
This is exactly why this is a bad decision.
I’m skeptical of his comment too. I’d say for a suit against gun makers to work, you’d have to prove they were negligent somehow. Not just that they sold guns.
It sounds possible. Assuming they came at all. Calling the cops would have been a good CYA move. Not letting them pump gas into a water jug would have been another. I’d be more comfortable holding the pump jockey personally responsible than the gas station itself. This feels like a “blame the person the deepest…
This. The idea that some minimum wage worker needs to step out and be a vigilante is silly. He should have called the cops. It’s not clear if it would have mattered though. The feeling I get is this place was pretty rural. The idea that cops are always around is a city thing.
This ruling gives inordinate power to people who are unqualified to have it. Basically any shop now can say “I thought he’d been drinking” to deny service to anyone they wish. Asking some poor minimum wage flunkies to make these decisions is just asking for trouble.
The number of cars that can outperform my Model 3 Performance for the price: Zero. After a suspension upgrade it is also faster in corners than my 997.2.
All they have to do is disable DC fast charge because “the car is too old and FC is now dangerous”. It’ll kill the value of all the old Teslas. The problem is Tesla has everyone by the balls because the control who can and can’t fast charge or charge at all on their network.
Most car companies. Documentation to repair the car is now behind a paywall. There are no printed manuals anymore. Many parts in cars these days need to be registered to the ECU using factory diagnostic tools too. I’d say we’re well on the way to black box disposable cars.
We practice “Freedom” here. Which means freedom to be incompetent too. 1/2 our states don’t even have vehicle inspections. I’ve lived in Germany and am quite aware of the strict licensing requirements and strict vehicle inspections. I find I prefer the US way. Freedom means you’re exposed to more danger but conversely…
Just goes to show, you can be the best driver in the world but your number can still come up.
Maybe you’re right and I’m better off doing nothing. I’m alright with that.
