I had 65 guests total and we still had plenty of leftover food and booze. I ended up donating it to the church because they were hosting a homeless shelter the next evening. I’m sure they ate very well.

$34K for an “average” wedding? Damn!
California DMV: Hold my beer
Obligatory Ford Ka ads:
Seriously - people still buy Ragu? Yuck!
Don’t do this unless you’re experienced with doing home maintenance and know a lot of good people for the various trades (plumbing, electrical, etc.). You would be surprised at some of the sketchy shit I’ve seen in houses. When my wife and I were looking at homes, the code violations were all over the damn place.
Have a CFA or similar look at their 401k program. Many are heavy with up-front fees, poor performance, and end up losing a lot of money. I’ve avoided some plans because of this. One company I worked at had a 401k that was completely dependent on the performance of a life insurance company none of us ever heard of.…
Exactly. They were more interested in % change as opposed to the actual amount. I had one job where I was about 20% below market rate (I was laid off and needed the work badly, plus wages took off later on) and getting a job with higher pay was virtually impossible because of the difference in salaries at the time.…
I always reach out to various recruiters during the year and see what’s happening on their end. Sometimes they get a bunch of openings that opened up suddenly due to expansion or they landed a new client. It’s good to see where you match up with the industry, especially when it comes to total compensation. Also, don’t…
Here in CA it’s a law that you can ask for the salary range. That law also made it illegal to ask people what they were making, which was a HUGE pet peeve of mine. Almost always the first question I was asked.
As much as I like Linux, you do realize they make a Windows version of VLC?
VLC. No brainer. Plays virtually any file, even those that are corrupted.
I never do any prep. I just make a small amount at a time. Just add enough water and you should be good to go. If you don’t have enough then you will end up with concrete.
My usual breakfast is steel-cut oatmeal with fruit in it, usually apples, or dried cranberries or dried bluebrries. Works pretty well. I prefer to cook my chicken strips as many of the pre-cooked ones are typically rubber tasting. You could also get a $5 chicken from Costco and use that over for 2-3 days.
I used one during an exam in undergrad when my calculator died. I got some strange looks but it worked!
Ari Vatanen would like to have a word:
Yes! That was the name!
Reminds me when we used a company up in Seattle (forget the name offhand) where you would mail your film, and they would include your pictures in addition to a couple more rolls of film. Undeveloped film can last for some time provided the conditions are right.
