Many places are like that. Getting a liquor license in San Francisco can be real pain in the ass, and there’s a difference between beer/wine and hard liquor too. There’s a really good Chinese Muslim restaurant in my area (Old Mandarin) that doesn’t sell alcohol but they’re more than happy to let you bring in your own

Recruiting lounge? I guess that’s for the hookers and blow. That locker room entrance - WTF. Damn.

More stars!

Take your damn star!

Agreed - I bought some bruised/overripe/ugly peaches for 50 cents a pound and made an excellent peach cobbler with it.

Losing to a Prius?

Two words: farmer’s market. I bought a 20 pound box of dry-farmed early girl tomatoes and made 2.5 gallons (10 liters) of tomato sauce. Yummy!

I had that flying back to the US after a one way trip from Beijing to Wuhan, of all places. I already had round trip tickets to/from Wuhan and SFO booked, so someone should’ve easily figured that out.

I stopped using Drano and it’s equivalent, and just use hot water and Dawn/Palmolive to flush out the drains. I have a snake and plunger when needed, and if things are really bad I take out the ShopVac.

I do this with my outside drains to make sure they’re clean for the upcoming winter rains. Works like a champ and you get all kinds of dirt and other stuff that builds up.

We have the same problem here in SF too - the drivers ALWAYS trust the app because virtually all of them are from out of town and don’t know SF very well. There are excellent alternatives that are faster if you know where/when to go. When I took Uber/Lyft after teaching my class, I would end up with a drive through

I always keep cheese on hand. I eat it all the time of course but it’s also nice to have so you can slice it up and make a quick cheese/cracker tray. I usually keep mixed nuts and chocolate around too, which are also nice to put out.

They have this in China. Every post office is also a bank where people can get various services, just like the larger banks. They have ATM machines, tellers, the works. They often have one side as the bank, while the other side is for mail.

French wines in general (also most European wines too) are meant to be eaten with food. I had a blind tasting where the French wine by itself didn’t taste all that good, but when eaten with cheese it was fantastic.

Now playing

Did someone say watermelon? Time for the Sledge-O-Matic!

They have a “sports” package for the Prius too. What a joke. It’s more of a “Rice Boy” package instead. Even the folks at the Toyota dealer were laughing about it.

“Shit will buff out” - best comment from that video!

Me watching these highlights:

Don’t forget the tax benefits from deducting mortgage interest and property taxes. That helps a lot.

Boot camps have their place for experienced software engineers who want to learn new things. Unfortunately too many of them promise the world and under deliver.
