They’re obsessed with their own celebrity, they seem to lack empathy for their fellow human beings, and despite these facts, or maybe because of them, they’re incredibly rich.

While I agree with that, it’s also kind of the entire premise for this article.

Peter Gabriel is only a one-hit wonder if you use the Billboard Top-40 as your only metric for defining a hit. (And I think that’s ludicrous.)

you’d be really impressed

a place where they let 16 year-olds drink

i’ll admit they may not be considered a one-hit wonder but it’s one of those things where if you follow the band enough to be able to answer this question, you start to lose track of what was broadly considered a hit. like aren’t grateful dead technically a one-hit wonder? that question would make all of my relatives

I actually prefer My Heart Goes Bang

Yeppers.

Likewise. Just different in all the right ways.

I like how Fountains of Wayne went from a One Hit Wonder for Radiation Vibe to a One Hit Wonder for Stacy’s Mom. That’s clearly two hits, though obviously of substantially different scales.

Whatever and Ever Amen is one of my favorite albums.

Sinead O’Connor is technically a one-hit wonder with Nothing Compares 2 U. But I remember first hearing Mandinka on 120 minutes one night and it was great. See also: The Emperor’s New Clothes.

Two from the Eighties

“Brimful of Asha” is a great tune, but Cornershop’s When I Was Born For the 7th Time is a pretty solid album. I find “Good Shit” especially enjoyable.*

I didn’t realize this until a couple of years ago, but Gold Earring is also responsible for “Twilight Zone,” which is pretty well known

One of my favorite Fountains of Wayne facts is that they got nominated for a Best New Artist Grammy in 2003. 7 years after the album with ‘Sink to the Bottom’ was released.

I think both Epic and Midlife Crisis would qualify as hits in the U.S., personally.

As an Aussie I’m familiar with most of their discography. However, sadly to the younger generation even in Australia they’re pretty much only know for Down Under, maybe Who Can it Be Now? if you’re lucky.

Now playing

I can’t stand “The Freshman” by The Verve Pipe, but love “Photograph”.

fountains of wayne’s “acela” or “sink to the bottom” are my favorites.
