Fire extinguishers are mandatory in Brazil for all new cars for a long time. It all started with Volkswagen putting a fuel line right over a hot engine part, back in the days when Brazil had over 70% Volkswagens on the road.

As an American here in Germany I noticed that many times the small roads connecting villages go around in curves through the countryside where they could just go straight. Talking to a traffic engineer I met in Nuremberg he told me that is done on purpose to lower driving speeds and driver's boredom.

They do the same thing here in Germany, and people keep driving their cars like that. My wife had a fender bender in our Saab 9-5 and required a new front bumper. How did the engine itself sound on idle? Did it tick a lot (older hydraulic tappet cars will do that sometimes) or pretty quiet?

I thought I'd just be able to drive the car home and mail the plates back. That's what I did when I bought a car in France. I think I'll have to look into getting a temporary plate, those can cost a couple hundred Euro here since they carry a 5 day insurance for a non inspected car.
