I’m happy to be Captain Obvious.

Ok, I get your point. However, it isn’t my fault when OEMs only go part of the way to earn credibility.

What does Genesis stand for? What have they done to win the world over?

Since the first Hyundai Genesis cars hit the scene, they’ve been the top of the heap for the brand. However,

Call me a snob if you’d like”

Exactly what I was going to say. Phase out the subsidy at a certain weight.

Closing a lot of the tax loopholes for trucks and SUVs would solve this. Republicans would never sign off on this, so the Democrats would need a majority of the house, senate, and President to support it. Not saying it’s impossible, but it’s an uphill battle.

Your comment makes entirely too much sense, stop that.

This article, which was written on the heels of an article from the Atlantic, seems to be written with a false premise- that somehow US automakers are ONLY making huge, behemoth EVs. That is so far from the truth its ridiculous that an automotive journalist versus me wouldn’t at least do the slightest amount of

Very unpopular car opinion: We should heavily dis-incentivize owning large vehicles: require extra licensing to drive them, tax them extra at time of purchase and tax them extra on license renewal.

Owning an SUV or pickup truck should cost significantly more than a normal car (with cut outs for businesses owning

Speed cameras don’t care how fast you accelerate though, just where you stop accelerating

I hate how my generation, (Millennial,) made it okay for subscription services and this crap is now appearing on cars.

I wish I had the skills and tools to do exactly that and give the info out for free. This “business model” really pisses me off.

Of course this is a money grab, and very unwelcome in this world of high inflation for everything.

If buyers really strongly say no to the subscriptions, automakers won’t have a business case for them.

I’m with you - it’s ridiculous. But then again, as I’m in my 50s, I can’t help but realize that I’m paying a monthly fee to Pandora to listen to music that I bought on vinyl in the 80s, on CD in the 90s, and then again, digitally from iTunes in the 00s.

And then you have unexpected repair expenses all the damn time. No thanks.

I grew up in a middle class household, but have fended for myself since graduation. I was dumped into the worst economic situation since the Great Depression, but I worked my ass off and managed to get from a bank account with 19 cents in it and a single frozen chicken patty in my freezer.

I am self-employed and work

Ugh, fuck off.

If you’re living paycheck to paycheck, where the fuck are you getting 2-3k?

I think we can all agree lenders who sell loans to subprime borrowers who are always only one paycheck away from insolvency bear the majority of the blame.

Yeah, that was a thing in 2010. But today, you can’t find a reliable used car for $2-3k.  You’re really looking at $4-6k.  Even a 2010 Camry costs $5k unless you get one with 170k miles on it.  Yes, there are plenty of cars for $2-3k, but it’s a gamble.

Sure it’s great advice if you’re already wealthy. If you’re living paycheck to paycheck like most people with subprime loans, it’s just like suggesting they get 2-3 more jobs. It’s pretty tone deaf.
