I thought it was explained in the Sharpedo episode that things don't effect the trainers if the Pokémon has trust in them- ...but then that wouldn't explain why others survive...so that point is moot :P

The top one looks like a PAL model made out of Lego to look like an NTSC-U model, why would someone do that? the NTSC-U model is hideous.

It's pretty simple RPG, but it carries that weird charm that you always comeback and beat it in a day or two. They have some kickass musics too which you probably noticed as you already played theatrhythm CC.
It's a super dumbed down RPG, it was brought to the west to get people into RPGs. I personally loved the game (Tristam's theme is so badass) But it doesn't have the depth of typical FF games. I believe it's not even a FF game but got the label in the US for sales. It was in fact a FF title (four crystals etc etc)
It's certainly more simplistic, although I think it has a certain charm to it. I also think the music is delightfully catchy, in that early-SNES type of way.
