I do think that these widely-accepted “truths” in our culture are often based in fact but the whole picture is not what spreads - the bite-sized factoid version is what spreads.

That’s a great idea: transforming them from a monument to the worst things in our history, into an honest and hopefully cautionary look at our past. I guess that’s why Auschwitz still stands, with it’s Never Again message.

“All in the Family” was more nuanced in general. And yeah, the cast was amazing. One interesting thing, is that Archie is supposed to be (and is) the blue-collar bigot, while Michael is the liberal sociology student (conveniently enough). But Archie changes over the run of the show becoming more open-minded, while

Ten bucks says that’s exactly how Allen pitched it.

I commented similarly! Its just a shittier All In The Family, and it’s debatable if we ever needed the original anyway.

I think the only review I ever saw of this show noted it was for people who see Archie Bunker as someone to be emulated.

Yeah, i think All In The Family can be misunderstood. And in spite of it being so over the top, there was a lot of nuance to the show. I really came to like Carol O’Connor when I got to see the stuff he did in the In the Heat of the Night series. He tackled a lot of difficult subjects there, especially for when it

As Norman Lear has probably said a million times in the last 45 years (he’s still with us in his 90s), you can’t go about creating something while worried that the stupidest among us will misconstrue it.

I’m sure they can find some Archie Bunker reruns if they look.

I could completely understand that; you know what that shit is like, so you don’t *need* the lesson shown here. But someone like me who had a different upbringing and for whom this can show a new perspective — or for men, who could stand to be better allies & the best way for that to be possible is emotional

The difference you have lived it so you don’t have to relive it. I am sorry you grew up like that.

Yes, taco seasoning is so easy! I hate salad dressing. it’s so easy to make,  it’s endlessly customizable, and it’s 9000% better than anything you can buy in a bottle or packet. But my biggest pet peeve is boxed mashed potatoes. I get that scrubbing and peeling potatoes takes a lot of time, but it’s never not worth

You’re completely right, I swear by cans of the same. I should have specified that she likes cans of the condensed soup variety. (Shudder)

Canned tomatoes and artichokes for me. Ain’t nobody got time for making those on your own.

Yeah but when the rich get their tax cuts, they’re going to turn right around and invest that back into the economy by creating jobs for small businesses in a perfect trickle down effect, just like Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI did for France in the 1700's!

But that’s different, because you’re talking about something people didn’t really have in the first place. It’s way, way easier for the GOP to weasel out of that, especially when you throw up the boogeyman of “government welfare.”

Yeah, either she is talking out of her ass and doesn’t know who recruiters work because she has never used one, or she is talking about some other kind of specialized service.

McConnell’s easy to control; just creep up behind him with a pot of boiling water, whispering “Mmmmm, turtle soup”…

Lemme stop y’all before a good portion of you start running your mouths in the comments about “Please don’t speculate because we have no evidence” and all that other extra special bullshit y’all seem to find to excuse whatever behavior or attitudes you seem wont to do. Miss me with all of that.

Donald Trump is a dumb fuck, he’s the worst of inadequate white men.
