Try Acer. I have a V3-772G from 2013. Intel i7 quad-core, 17" FHD, nVidia GTX 760M, 16GB. Swapped the 1TB drive for a 256GB SSD and I can model CAD and do simple CFD on the run. The current equivalent is still about $1000.

If you don’t know why you need a quad-core laptop with discrete graphics, then you don’t need one. In my case, clients have really been receptive to seeing 3D CAD designs at meetings, plus there’s still enough horsepower to make quick changes while they wait.
