The setting in Bradbury’s novel is totally open to interpretation. The movie is set in Illinois in the ‘30s because that’s where and when Bradbury grew up. But IIRC, there’s nothing in the book that ties it to a specific place or time — Green Town is basically Anywhere, USA from 1900 on.
