Yep, I was hoping for books, too. This Amazon Prime Day reminded me of Geraldo Rivera and Al Capone’s vault: A big buildup for nothing.

But the Echo was even a better deal when it was invitation only, I got mine for $99. Well it was a deal if you were lucky enough to get “invited”

Nah, not that. They only offered very limited quantities, especially for the best deals. I’d be surprised if there were more than 50 TVs for sale at that price.

Also, you don’t have figures for how many they were selling. It’s completely possible they only had 10 or 20 units. With tens of thousands, possibly hundreds of thousands, of users watching the deals, you really shouldn’t be surprised that electronics items went that quickly. It’s already been pretty much confirmed

Yep, that’s about what I heard. Seconds. I heard there were a ton of people botting the deals and that’s why so many things went out so quickly.

Not to be a party pooper or anything, but I confess I was hoping for serious discounts on books and movies, not electronic hardware or vacuum cleaners or baby wipes or even an “electric milk frother.”

What the heck is a “milk frother”? :)

I’m probably going to see this this weekend. But mostly for the 30 seconds of Stucky at the end.

Didn’t they already do those articles after AoU didn’t make all the money, just most of it, had lukewarm critics, and Whedon batmouthed the studio every chance he got?

Just going to correct myself, potentially first to bomb since The Incredible Hulk.

I said more straight like the other MCU films, not humourless. One of the things GoTG had for it was that the humour was entirely central to the entire film, even more so than the action a lot of the time.

You never know. People thought the Wachowski name alone was sure to bring in a profit and Jupiter Ascending ended up being one of the worst box office bombs of all time.

Guardians of the Galaxy got catapulted into the arena of ‘people are excited to see it’ by its amaze-balls first trailer.

I just realized... Ant Man’s like a tiny Hulk, isn’t he?

I’m not arguing that the MCU didn’t make people stars but as I said in the original post they all played well-known comic characters. No one knew the people who played Spider-Man (I can’t even remember their names) but people still went to watch them as it’s Spider-Man.

I can’t see it bombing. There’s a good chance it won’t make GoTG money, though, in which case we’ll get endless thinkpieces asking “is this the end of the MCU?”, “the end of superhero movies?”, etc., which will be forgotten when Captain America: Civil War is a huge hit.

GoTG had Cooper in it and a number of other well-known figures including Saldana, Diesel, and Bautista. Yes none of them may be the same as a single A-Lister but together they bring in a wide range of fans. Somehow I don’t see Douglas’ usual crowd doing the same for Ant-Man.

Paul Rudd, great as he is, isn’t exactly A-list and his appearance in arguably the most popular film he’s been in (Anchorman) is very different from how he usually looks and while Douglas is a great star he’s not from the same genre as the MCU as he’s more well known for his dramatic work.

With GoTG, I was not familiar with the IP but thought the trailer was awesome so I was game. With this one, while I have heard of Ant-Man I have never read one of the comics, from the trailer I just wasn’t that intrigued. There are enough Marvel movies, I don’t need to see all of them.

Still think this could be the first MCU film to bomb. Unlike the rest of them it’s a relatively unknown hero and unlike GoTG, which was also unknown, doesn’t have the fun sense of humour nor star power that film had.
