It appears the PS5 can’t read CDs, for whatever reason. If you put a DVD in it can at least recognise there is a disc, even if the data on it is unsupported. But if you put a CD in it can tell there’s something physically in the drive, but it doesn’t appear to be able to read it at all. It just tells you the disc

In theory it should be able to physically read most PS2 discs, but some PS2 games came on CDs, so it wouldn’t be able to read those.

I understand that discs won’t work, but they could at least carry over your digital PS1 games from your PS3/PSP/Vita library. I bought a few PS1 games across those platforms, so if they are going to add PS1 support to PS4/5, it would be nice if I could play those without having to buy them again.

I have actually seen Reddit posts asking for this specifically.

I don’t remember ever playing it as a kid. Although I didn’t exactly find it hard to grasp the rules when I saw it on Squid Game, it’s about as simple a game as you can get.

They translate into English words in the same way French can be translated into English words. It’s not a one to one mapping with English, and the grammar is different.

You’d need really good animation to use in game models for sign language. The subleties are really important. At the very least I imagine it would seem “off” for people who understand sign language, and if it’s not even that good it might be difficult to understand.

Oh right. I’ve never seen it advertised as a menu option in places like McDonalds or Burger King here in the UK, but I’m sure if you asked for it without the bun they would.

I’ve seen plenty of restaurants offer a bunless option for burgers. Good for people who are trying to reduce their carb intake. It’s unusual for fast food though.

You can still buy new games on the PS3 store. It just can’t directly take card payments any more, and you have to add funds to your PSN wallet separately.

There could be legal reasons. Looks like RPCS3 is licensed under GPL which could make it unsuitable for use in the closed-source PS5 OS.

I think on average it would probably trend towards fewer being bought. Maybe initially you’d buy more to hatch purple eggs, but before long you’ll have everything you want from them and therefore no more need for incubators.

But if you could do that then people would buy fewer incubators.

Some games do it better now. I think Ghosts of Tsushima allows you to just import your PS4 save into the PS5 version without having to upload it via the PS4 version first.

I wonder how the ownership of the Kingdom Hearts franchise works. Does Disney actually have any rights over Sora and other original KH characters, or is it all Square Enix? Did they even need Disney’s permission to put Sora in Smash? I guess they did for the Mickey Mouse logo, but if they had said no, could Square

I see what you mean. But I think with complete editions it’s not strictly a disc space issue. It could be the case that the game + DLC wouldn’t fit on a single disc, but I don’t think that’s the main reason for it. They come with bundled DLC instead of it being on the disc because then the complete edition can be

I know that’s fairly common on Switch, but is it that common on other consoles? What PS4/Xbox One games require downloads on top of the data that comes on the discs? Excluding online only games, as naturally they require the latest version.

You have to bear in mind that part of John Oliver’s shtick is that he sometimes shits on his country of origin to pander to his American audience. It’s easy for him to lean into the image that the UK is authoritarian and censorship heavy compared to the US which is the land of freedom. So take what he says with a

I wonder if this would get banned in UK since I know that they have pretty strict censorship with anything that insult and mock their governance?
