My SO & I started making the bed every morning - nothing thorough, just tidying and straightening up. At the same time, we also started regularly hanging our coats in the coat closet (gasp!). It helps to declutter the house and tidy up the space. Quite the little visual difference.

I applied and was approved for a CC from a local credit union a few years ago. It’s a great low interest no frills card. However, when it expired two years later and they sent a new card, I noticed I had another hard pull on my credit report. I called and asked about it: apparently this is the norm for that card

Frozen sliced lemon peels work great. Add one in while running hot water and it keeps the disposal from smelling offensive and maintains the “blades”.

Of course, a Valero station. Those popped up around here over 15 years ago and generally sucked. They were the first stations in the area to push the >$0.10 difference between gas grades. The one nearest me also had issues with contaminated gas: my guess is they didn’t replace the tanks after taking over an outdated

Oh, same here. Only millenial hire in a long-standing [very] small business with a handful of employees. Hell, the whole industry is saturated with aging Boomers: I’ve had to sit through regional seminars/webinars on “How to hire and/or accommodate Millenial employees”. *eye roll* I felt rather alienated in that

I use disposable lens-cleaning wipes that my office has stocked up on. They work well for cleaning phones and other sensitive electronics.

Stressful situation indeed. My in-laws are great people and also have dreams of having the whole family living on large acreage of land as neighbors. My view... I grew up within minutes of my family. I’ll point out that distance can make the heart grow fonder.

I’ve been putting off moving my Roth IRA over to Vanguard. So I guess this is my sign. Wish me luck!

Well, this year should be fun: two-earner household, moderate tax state, no dependents or credits worth mentioning and we usually work out our taxes to get enough back to pay the CPA. Add in my (small) yet-to-be taxed bonus and the changes from tax cuts... I’m sure we’ll owe this year.

Envelope-less “budget-er” checking in: I used to never carry cash. But since we started budgeting to pay off debt, my SO and I each get $50 per paycheck as an allowance. Since all our bills, groceries, and monthly expenses are already covered, it’s our spending money for whatever we want.

Good idea and nice numbers!

Nice job!

When I was single, I filed by hand (good ole 1040EZ form) and compared to a quick run-through on TurboTax. Usually it was pretty much the same, but every once in a while there was a difference.

Agreed on letting insurance handle it. If it’s an incident where the other party is at fault, and they have current liability insurance, that will pay for repairs to your vehicle and your medical costs. What kind of coverage you have only matters if the other party doesn’t have current insurance.

Hold out for those under-chassis pics. Call if you have to. Especially if you’re halfway across the country from the car.

Maybe also reconsider who you vote for in future local, state, and national elections as well. Hopefully we won’t have a repeat shutdown over nonsense like this again.

Ooh, I like this new format vs previous monthly challenges. Makes me feel more involved than making a decision for the month and trying to stick with it. My SO & I have already accomplished Week 1-2 goals and are currently working on Week 3.

I’m in. We’re starting out the new year by trying to stick with a cash budget “allowance” for all non-automated bills and expenses. I’m going to use this exercise as a guideline to stick with that: no charges to our cards, borrowing from other ourselves, moving funds between accounts, etc.

“...for every new thing you buy, it makes everything you already own a little less valuable.”

We must be on similar wavelengths. My spouse and I just had a sit down meeting the other night to discuss our financial goals for 2019. We’ve already automated our bills, savings, IRA & HSA contributions, etc., but are leaving our spending money to be cash only. It’s going to be tough sticking with a cash budget and
