For those with small or oddly-shaped kitchens: pots & pans! My kitchen was made for giants (my 6' husband can’t even reach to the top shelf without standing on his toe) and the lower shelves were full with other important items. So I bought a wall-mounted rack to hang them. Saves space & makes for a lovely display for Read more

State laws and regulations screw it up. We would’ve ended up paying 2-3x the normal monthly premium for the same coverage through COBRA.

I think reading the policy terms and having a clear understanding of what coverage is included is the key to any insurance plan. Short term health plans are not evil - you just have to know what you’re dealing with. Some are better for emergency coverage only like visits to the ER, while others are more comprehensive. The steadily growing water stain in the ceiling above the shower in our guest bathroom. Fellow renter here. I’m fortunate that the landlord lets us handle a lot of things on our own: either DIY or call a professional and get reimbursed through our rent. But the roof is beyond that. We had a nasty hail storm a few Read more

I did something similar last month: I had previously picked up a cheap Dell 2-in-1 laptop on sale that was in desperate need of some help. I ordered a $40 8gb RAM stick, 500gb Samsung Evo SSD, and external drive enclosure. After cloning the original drive and swapping in the new new, it is much more useful/enjoyable. Read more

I also abandoned my game for about two months and oddly now look forward to returning. I already knew about the updates - those are cool but haven’t brought me back. But the messy chores! I can do that. Read more

We looked into COBRA when my husband had a break in coverage between leaving one job and getting health coverage through his new job. We live in a state that apparently has minimal/limited COBRA coverage. Read more

My personal favorite was that early homemade image people were touting around as a digital “card” that spelled it as “HIPPA”. How to spot the idiot anti-masker.

So I know this is an upcycled article, but thank you for sharing it. I picked a Samsung SSD a few weeks ago and have tried numerous programs to try to clone my original HDD to it, all unsuccessful. I also did numerous scans, checks, etc, for corrupt files, bad sectors, and more to rule out issues. Read more

Any recommendations for cleaning inside sensitive kitchen appliances: toaster ovens, air fryers, etc? I have a Ninja Foodi oven and the inside is caked in baked-on oil after less than a year of regular use. The instructions recommend a damp/soapy paper towel - but that doesn’t cut it.

Permethrin for clothes/gear. You can find spray-on or wash-in versions. It’s generally safe for most materials, shouldn’t make them smell, and repels those annoying & dangerous pests. Definitely a must-have for outdoors & hiking attire.

I work in insurance and it is amazing the number of people that don’t understand the simplest cyber security functions. I always point out to customers to never send sensitive information via email (SSN, DL#, DOB) unless it’s encrypted or via secure messaging. Yet every so often someone will shoot off an email with Read more

Obvious one here, but check their reviews & ratings on Google & social media. Two of the last three vehicles I’ve purchased have been out of state and from car dealers. The last one involved flying to the east coast, picking up the car, and narrowly escaping Hurricane Florence. :) Read more

Not even holiday pay can be guaranteed in hourly retail positions. Holidays like Memorial Day, Labor Day, etc, are frequently big sale days without additional compensation. At least from my 14 years in retail. /sadface
