Agree almost entirely, although having lighted signals of some kind at night would be a good thing. I've seen (here on Gizmodo, IIRC) a jacket with lights down the sleeves for that very purpose - enhancing the visibility of hand signals. Which could also be done with reflector tape, I guess.
