I missed the pre-air thing at the top. I read 2 or 3 paragraphs and decided I wanted to watch this. Now.

“1897 is Victorian, not Edwardian.”

Your username, in this context, amuses me.

1st season - truly great. it slowly dawned on you that the underbelly of the town was more vile and depraved than you could imagine. genius writing, fantastic characters.

He had an established YouTube channel that dealt with Nintendo output. He was hired on, not just as a writer, but as an editor doing the same job. They wouldn’t have thought he needed a ton of oversight. He’s already been doing the job you’ve hired him for and there’s no reason to think he’s a thieving dick.

“I’m a grumpy old man, too, and Aphex Twin was irritating, nihilistic nightmare fuel back when I was in my mid-20s.”

It really kicks into gear at episode 3, when we begin to suspect Fiona Shaw is slightly crazy. If you’re not in love by then, it’s not going to happen.

Actually, read a little about how that director deals with his actors on set and his whole “process”.  And THEN we’ll talk.

The Villainess was only just released in some territories this year. So it still counts.

Yeahhh...

But then consider who it is making that point. And then don’t engage, and move on.

I may like her best in (the criminally underrated) Josie and The Pussycats. She was born for that role.

It’s unlikely they’re going the “destroy everything and then we’ll start again” route.

It had some real narrative problems, but there are a bunch of moments, scenes and whole stretches of movie that are absolutely terrific; and those things mean that I forgive the issues, to some extent.

Two new, and insanely expensive, CGI ones are on Netflix right now.

Try watching All the Boys love Mandy Lane.  It’s a fantastic film and she’s incredibly good in it.

“I have a problem with them putting 0 effort into doing anything with how they talk under water.”

Because they’re kids’ films.
