You’ve hit the nail on the head I reckon. Basically no one is truly “likeable”. We’re all just pond scum wankers trying to do our best, and Catastrophe, and that particular storyline, reflects that beautifully imo.

Sharon’s entire wardrobe is glorious. I love how she dresses for herself. Rob’s response to the wedding outfit was hilarious. She is a true Man Repeller sartorially and I love her for it.
Could not love this show (and Sharon) more. Whoever does her wardrobe deserves all of the awards (I especially love that she re-wears pieces). We just did a rewatch in preparation for Season 3. I’m currently quite pregnant and my husband said to me: “You know, the first time we watched this I thought Sharon was really…
I love Catastrophe and Sharon Horgan. Weirdly I always think I know her. I’ll see pictures and think “Oh there’s Sharon”. Maybe it’s because she’s Irish and other members of her family are also so well known here? I dunno, anyway I always feel like I’m rooting for her. I digress...
I LOVE what you said about “unlikeable woman” being code for “woman with a full range of emotions.” That verbiage has always irked me for that reason. Like, really? A female character is unlikeable because she’s not perfect and doesn’t selflessly cater to all the male characters around her? It’s ridiculous.
Love love love this show and can’t wait for Season 3. This might sound weird, but as someone who is about to get married (in 2.5 weeks!) I find this show oddly comforting. My partner and I have already been together 7 years and have gone through ups and downs, and this show captures the nuances of what a relationship…
I like to think that Sharon timed the premiere to coincide with my birthday. Thanks for the gift, Sharon! ;)
Dude. I love her. I’m so bummed you didn’t crowd source questions prior to the interview. My brilliant question would be, “Where did you get that awesome yellow bra you wore in S1?”
Catastrophe is worth the price of Amazon Prime, in fact it’s the reason I signed up in the first place.
Having a bit of a fan girl moment here. I’m so jealous you got to interview her! Excited for season 3!
I watched the latest episode last night and I’ve been thinking about it all day. I’m a recovering alcoholic and the way the show tackles his relapse is so real and so touching. He is so lucky to have Sharron to love him. He’s not a bad person but he’s a liar and he is dangerous when he is drinking. I bet he feels…
They feel so incredibly real to me. We have a 5 year old and at times I have wondered if Horgan and Delaney had a video camera in my home.
Before last season’s premiere, I remember one critic said that the best thing about Sharon and Rob is that (in character) they genuinely make each other laugh, which makes them feel so much more real.
You think they’re awful? I don’t feel that way at all. I like how human they are, and how they approach that humanity with humor most of the time. I like how relatable their problems are. I mean, I’ve never been accused of sexual harassment or cheated on my partner, but the way those story lines unfolded felt real to…
At the conclusion of season two I was sitting on my couch and YELLING at the screen, “DONT YOU SAY A DMAN WORD, ROB! YOU LET IT ALONE! LET IT BE!”
Yeah, that’s the peril of loving British TV...on one hand, the 6-ep seasons probably have something to do with the consistently high quality. On the other hand, 6 30-minute episodes is a goddamn tease!
Same. I binge watched them all in a row and was like, ONLY SIX EPISODES???
I don’t think I’ve ever fallen in love with a show as quickly as I did this one. After episode 1 I was ready to declare it one of my Top 5 shows ever.
Catastrophe is such a wonderful show as it is able to make two fairly awful people deeply relatable much the way Tony Soprano was an awful human, but you rooted for him. That said, Rob and Sharon haven’t killed anybody.
I stumbled across this show a couple of years ago and I love love love it.
