An influencer is someone who gathers a large number of followers on social media and then monetizes that by posting products/ads. The most successful influencers also make money from attending/speaking at events. People become influencers for a number of reasons—a few actually have skills, like rollerskating or rock

She’s publicized her existence for money, that’s what being an influencer is, so she’s opened herself up to criticism. Since she does make money that means, unfortunately, that she has followers/actually influences people—so criticizing her poor behavior in African countries is totally valid.

I thought it was a lot, too. I don’t know any tenured professor in my own orbit who was fired—several who were put on paid leave, though. I assume that many of firings take place in religious schools. But maybe my perception is skewed since those are the ones I hear about more often. I’m sure both school

100% the only option at this point. One very exalted professor actually did parrot something I’d already published two years prior—but honestly, what could I do? She can just claim we’d both looked at the same archives and arrived at the same point independently. I was strongly advised not to publicize what she’d done

It would certainly be more concrete than “gross personal misconduct that destroys academic usefulness,” but it’s also hard to prove in most cases. Some tenured professors are stupid enough to plagiarize work that is published prior to their own. Most just steal their graduate students’ ideas from seminar papers or

The CDC let us open colleges and secondary schools back up. They’ve been fucked for a while now.

We do not need to cancel Roxane Gay. Settle down.

Well, to the untrained eye, the man did campaign like he was trying to throw the race. But that’s just because he’s so hilariously out of touch.

Yeah, horrifying. I would personally not get a vaccine released two days before the election by Trump’s government. Good luck to anyone who goes for it.

They sure are! To me, based on the interviews, they seem nice and very dull. I do feel like if Harry married Chelsea Davy and decided to fuck off to Zimbabwe with her, there wouldn’t be the same level of backlash. Being Black, and American, and an actor doesn’t help with the PR.

ah, ok, I thought it was just the over-the-shoulder trick, but looking at it again it does seem pretty dense

ok, very fair!

I actually clicked through to buy the campaign T shirt with this photo on it but I did get a hold of myself.

OK but does that for sure mean that they’re hair extensions? Because that’s how my former SIL cuts everyone’s hair and it’s not an unachievable length for most white women.

Damn. Reading #4 was therapeutic.

Harry and Meghan are famous for nothing

I stayed up two hours past my bedtime soaking in the thrill of a Kennedy defeat last night. I really didn’t think that was going to happen in Massachusetts. But what a great time to be wrong. With that said, Kennedy couldn’t have run a worse or more confusing campaign (“I’m not just a Kennedy!” “Here’s my grandma!”
